Squier Electrics: 30 Years of Fender's Budget Guitar Brand

Excellent history of Squier (by Fender) electric guitars
Excellent history of Squier (by Fender) electric guitars. This gives the reader a sense of the ups and downs of the sub-brand. The author conducted many interviews will people involved with Squier, from the people who ran Fender in the early 1980s, to the Japanese contract manufacturers, to the Squier bosses in charge in then 2000s. Tony Bacon describes all the Squier models, even some of the short-lived ones that were experiments of Squier's frequently changing leadership. Bacon doesn't claim the book to be a resource for identifying when and where a particular guitar was made, but the appendices are the main source of this info for Squier owners. The only thing that put me off was the format - two facing pages of text followed by two pages of photos throughout the book. So when I was reading something particularly interesting, I had to turn the page twice to keep going. The publisher probably wanted to appeal to those who like "guitar porn."

Excellent book, the real Squier story
Tony Bacon is a guitar authority, and this Squier book is fully up to his best work. I only have the Kindle version, but it is impressive. I am not really a Squier afficionado, but I do own one and probably will own more, so it is nice to have, especially if you are interested in older used Squiers.

WOW What a history
Fun facts. I had no idea that are so so many Squier models out there. Also, there made in too many countries to list. You need this book as a reference if you wish to date or find the country of origin of your prized Squier. I'd still stick with Fender!

Of course like Tony's other books based around the Fender Strat and ...
If you're into the later history of Squier and their movement from a Fender option to their very own Brand Name, pick up this book! Of course like Tony's other books based around the Fender Strat and Fender Tele, he goes into great detail about not only the history of Squier, but the events surrounding their creation. As a Fender owner (and enthusiast) - as well as a home-brew, chop-shopper - this book helped me identify past models, admired models, and even models that were duds.I highly suggest this book for anyone interested in the history of Fender post 1965 - as well as the historical background of guitars being made in Japan, China, Indonesia, India, and Mexico.

Another valuable tool.
This has been yet again another valuable learning tool to understand Fenderism. Massive reference to fact from important personnel gives you the bigger picture. Like most things it was all to do with money. Squier is now the trend setter in solid and variable guitars. Do your self a favor get hold of a copy and read. Oodles of pics show many variations increasing the desire level of many I did not know existed.Improve your fenderism.to the author. "Keep cookin up the good Bacon". revised edition request. Lets see something about the Fender Bullet....

Mile Wide....
Little disappointed with this book. It is a 30 year history of the Series, but tends to be a mile wide and not very deep. I was hoping for more detail on the history which is OK, and some details about the early MIJ models, and maybe a little comparison between the Squier and the mainline MIJ Fenders. I have a 1985 Squier Strat and I think that year got about half of a sentence and then it moved on.So if you want a very broad history and run-through of the Squier, then this will do. If you are looking for any sort of detail of particular models and how they changed over time, then you will be disappointed. An internet search will give you more than this. Pictures are OK but even including the catalogs for each year would have added greatly to the book....and most of these are online. I guess I was hoping for one place to find everything.

Great Book!
A great book about a subject that is barely mentioned or simply glossed over in other Fender Books. As a fan of mod-able guitars I have always been a fan of the versatility of Squiers and their potential for being upgraded into very playable instruments. This book goes over the early beginnings in Japan and follows through the various phases of the line up to the late 2000's. I'd recommend this book to any fan of Fenders and their history.

Excellent read..
An excellent, and very readable history of the Squire brand. All the books by Tony Bacon I've read have been worth the time spent reading them, and this is no exception to those. Being a Squier user myself, it was really nice to fill in some of the gaps in my knowledge about the brand - even if it hasn't helped my playing any! Recommended to all Squier fans - and any other guitar fans as well, whatever brand they prefer!

Quite underwhelmed by the Kindle Edition
The formatting that I hope is better in the paper book is poor. The images are small and cannot be viewed at a sensible size or zoomed into are accompanied by duplicate text. Considering the price it’s not good value.

Let down.
I was very disappointed in this book because I have owned and played Squier guitars and basses but there is no mention of the basses and this is titled Squier Electrics not Squier Guitar Electrics. I had also ordered the book but quickly cancelled at that price. An informative book on the creation of Squier but lacking in the models of basses which should have been included.

Squier Electrics - Guitars only!
As a collector of guitars and basses, i have always found Tony Bacons work as the perfect reference point . This book ,although it contains all the details you will ever need about the guitar side of production, contains virtually nothing of it's basses . Considering the amount of basses produced by Squier, especially the Classic Vibe series, it looks like this volume definitely needs a companion dealing with the four string varities. A work in progress Mr. Bacon?
