Nice looking hopefully will function well
Your browser does not support HTML5 video. We’ve been looking awhile for a hiking pack for our dog. I like that this also doubles as a life vest. Timber is just starting to like the water so I’m hoping this will help give her confidence while swimming. I like that you can remove the packs. Trying it out in the yard I learned you have to make sure the weight is balanced in the packs or it tips to the side pretty bad. Timber is 60lbs. The chest strap is tightened all the way as well as the belly strap. You would be able to cut the straps to make it even tighter if you needed.Pros:-color and feel is very nice-fits very well-packs are removable-padding on the chestConcerns:- that the zipper and material of the packs will remain strong and not rip.-That she will get overheated-That the straps will rub and irritate**We will be trying this out this weekend and I will update. I own a pet sitting business so I’ve tried out many products with my large client base. I get asked frequently about packs so I’m really hoping this product will last and hold up to the Timber Test.

Fits and works great for medium-sized dog
Fits my dog just great! He's a 55 pound Australian Shepherd. He's a jumper and loves pool water; we're not so sure about large bodies of water so we wanted to be safe and got this backpack. He jumped in once and was able to float. He might just need time to get used to it! One of the bags had a clear, ziplock bag inside that I was surprised to see. I'll be using it as a trash bag :) Thanks so much!

Great to keep your dog afloat.
Absolutely the best vest with multi purposes that I have used. We go to the lake allot and my Service Dog loves to play ball, flyer or squirrel when at the lake. She loves to swim, but we are not always able to keep up with her when she is swimming towards a toy. She gets tired really quickly, she wants to play more so I bought her this vest for swimming and to use in the winter as a regular vest. I think it will work well for most of our trips out. I use more medication in the winter so I need to have her have larger packs. If it doesn't work then she will wear her other vests and we will keep this only for water trips. It still works really well as a floatation vest, she loves it and when I put it on her she knows it's water time, right now.

For VERY LARGE DOGS
I truly wanted to love this backpack/lifejacket combo. The main problem is that this product is trying to do 2 things at the same time and because of this, it does neither particularly well. Due to this I ended up returning it, spending a little more money, and getting the Mountain Smith K9 Pack. (Absolutely reccomend by the way, 100% great bag)Pros:It is double use.It has a nice bright orange color for visibility. The bags attach with clips and velcro so they are stable. It seemed to stay upright and not fall to one side or the other.Build quality seemed good in some areas, not so in others (see below)Cons:***It's one size**. My dog is a 60lb AmStaff and while it fit hit around the chest, this bag is really long. From the nape of the neck down the back toward the tail the bag measures a little over a foot long. Because of this, it fit really awkwardly toward the back and the stomach strap was trying to tighten around...um...the crotch area, a no go for my dog.Little protection from the straps and clips, could lead to irritation. (Didn't use for long enough to determine)Overall not up to the quality of other more pricey bags, given this is cheaper so it was expected.BUILD QUALITY:The top half of the bag seems good enough, not great, not cheap, just good. My issues came with the under belly area. There is a chest pad that comes down, however, the other two cross belly straps and clips are not padded and I fear it could've led to irritation down the road. Bags felt nice though! Good zippers with some water resistance, great velcro, and good clips.Overall if you have a BIG dog that doesn't pull a lot I could reccomend this, but its got to be a large, large dog. Just didn't work for me unfortunately, I loved the concept!

Would buy again with IMPROVED Durability
My Chesador goes for midnight swims in the Susquehanna river. I’ve been on the look out for a hiking pack/life vest combo, this seemed to fit the bill. He’s 75lbs and tolerates the vest well, light-weight, doesn’t inhibit his swimming speed, and flexible: able to jump up into an SUV with it on. Unfortunately the buckle attachment(sewn in black strap) wasn’t strong enough on the pack side and tore off during the first use in some moderate brush. Reminder, the removal packs are water resistant, Not waterproof. There were small collections of water in both packs post a 20 min swim. Packs are a bit bulky with added foam for buoyancy. I would not recommend extensive use due to under-straps not being padded. The design is nice, however durability needs improvement.

Good idea, but poor design.
I liked the idea of this vest very much.. The side bags are made well and stick to the velcro good. The vest itself is not made of dog condusive material. It didn't take but 1 week for the mesh to start ripping holes and the grab handle has about ripped off too. My dog is not terribly hard on this vest and we use it just to walk to the lake by our house. But EVRY kind of plant matter sticks to the mesh material on the vest like glue, and it rips really easily. Also the floatability is not as good as a regular life jacket for dogs, and the under the belly straps are not padded and will dig into your dogs stomach if you attempt to lift them at all or have it on to tight or leave it on to long.. I'm sorry to say that I've wasted a good amount of money on this and don't want to deal with using it any longer.

Nice idea but poor design
I bought this for a 65lb lab mix - size was great, and I really wanted to like it, but after about 8 uses it's falling apart. My dog is good about staying on trail - not beating the brush or smashing the bags into trees...and yet the velcro AND straps have torn loose from the bags. It can be repaired, but I will have to replace the straps with longer ones so that more than the very edge is stitched to the bag. More stitching and longer straps would have made these so much better. It was a comfortable design for my dog - no chafing or rubbing on long hikes, but difficult to keep straight, even with a snug fit and very balanced packs.
