The Kodansha Kanji Dictionary: The World's Most Advanced Japanese-English Character Dictionary

I bought this book to go with the Kodansha Kanji Learner's Course as the companion book was out of stock at the time. This is a very large book with over 4000 kanji in very high detail. There are a lot of variants in this book, but without these explained, I wouldn't have understood certain texts I have experimented in translating. The cross-reference numbers in the Learner's Course do not correspond with this book, but the radical index in both books allows for quick cross-referencing, and I have learned more by doing it this way anyway by finding the wrong characters and I feel it has sped up my learning. The writing is a little small, but dictionaries usually are. This is the only fault I can find with the book but not one that I feel means it should lose anything in my rating. Great book for learning kanji with.
