easier than building my own
shipping was prompt it is shipped fairly dull mount it on a pole hit the tips with a file stab fish be happy it's meant to stab fish not frogs so it is heavier weight than most gigs we see in stores around here looks cheap but I've used these for years and not once has a fish complained about being stabbed with a cheap gig head if you lose it over board your out $4.99 most of my lures cost more than that throw the mounting bolt away buy a 10 ft stick of emt conduit some J B weld and drill a bigger hole for a mounting bracket . would have rated it at 4 stars if not for the price I'm about to order 4 more summers coming and it's time to go giging

Small spear
Thought it would be somewhat larger, but it will still work. Not the sharpest points, but a file will take care of that.

You will SLAY all the frogs!
This is a pretty big head compared to all my buddies, but it is far superior. If you can stun the frog you won't miss with this tool. All my buddies say "it has a bigger blast radius!" I got 15 frogs in about 1 hour the other day and not one slipped off. The points are extremely sharp, and the barbs are still great. I'm sure with any sharp object you will have sharpen it after a lot of use, but 2 times out and about 60 frogs have met their maker. I couldn't be more pleased with this head.... Amazing quality, sturdy, sharp, and you don't have to worry about hitting rocks or anything. Stop reading this and just buy it. You will not be disappointed.

Great for flounder
I’ve only speared one blue crab but seems like I could spear anything successfully. I just suck at spearing at the time of this review.

This is a frog spear, not a fish spear
This product is listed as a FISH spear, but after receiving it, it is obviously a FROG spear. I bought this spear for spearing Suckers and Carp. Unfortunately, it is too small to be effective for these species. The packaging clearly states it is a Frog spear. Had the listing on Amazon indicated this, or if a picture would have been included which actually showed the packaging, this would have been obvious before I purchased it and I would have ignored this product and continued looking for something more suitable.I tried to ascertain the dimensions of the product before purchasing it, but the dimensions listed on the Amazon listing say it is 3.3x3.3x1 inches, which makes no sense. Instead, I had to rely on answered questions. The top answer indicated it was 6" wide, though some answers said 4" wide. I have no idea what sort of ruler those respondents were using, but when measured using Imperial Inches, the spear I received is only about 3.25" wide from outer tine to outer tine. After receiving the product, I now see that the packing says it is "7 inches"....whatever that means. Regardless, this makes no sense either, since not a single dimension of the product is that large. I have attached pictures to show the true dimensions. From the tip of the longest tine to the mouth of the mounting hole, it is about 6.25" tall. As mentioned, from outer tine to outer tine, it is about 3.25" wide. The tines themselves are roughly 3" long. I wasn't as concerned about the size of the mounting hole, but for anyone who is curious, the mouth of the mounting hole is about 15/16" wide and tapers slightly, probably to about 5/8" wide.I did not end up using this product, so I cannot comment on the sturdiness from experience. However, based on a visual inspection of how it is constructed, I would be surprised if it lasted long when using on anything larger than frogs since it is merely spot welded in a few places. Based on past experience with other spears of similar construction, the welds will break after a short time and the tines will fall off.Overall, I was disappointed with this product, mostly due to poor or inaccurate specifications on the Amazon listing.

Sturdy and really worth the money.
I actually bought this to spike my lawn. I needed to seed small patches of dirt on my lawn without digging up the area. I needed something to create holes. I looked all over for a lawn tool, then I remembered seeing a spear in one of my fishing catalogs. After I added a wooden handle, this spear is very sturdy and really did the job. After about 20 or so patches, the barbs and points were still intact. If this product holds up in dirt, just image how it will hold up spearing fish. I highly recommend this product.
