Plug Follower

When rekeying locks, the cylinder must be removed with either the master key or the change key that opens the lock. Above the shear line are the top pins along with some heavily compressed springs just waiting to come out and go flying into the most hidden part of your shop never to be seen again.By using the follower plug you can push out the cylinder while pusing in the follower, which keeps the pins and springs above the shear line while you remove the height pins and setup the new key pinning. Whith the cylinder holding its new key and pins, the process is reversed only now the cylinder holds the springs and pins in place like it normally would, and the follower plug is pushed out the back. Install the turning piece and retainer clip and the job is done, often in under a minute.It's good practice to change the key combo when tennants move out of rentals, and with this tool and a keying kit you can do the job yourself in just a few minutes. A locksmith would charge $40 to do the job, so it pays for itself in about 3 usages. If you have 20 or more locks, buy a good kit!

The part arrived oversize. It should have been 0.500 inches or slightly less. It was 0.508 inches. Since it is only plastic, I was able to put it in my drill and sand it down to size, but you need at least a pair of calipers to verify that you have the diameter the same along the entire shaft. I should not have to fix a brand new part...

This plug follower is not made for Schlage C Type keyways. You need to put a piece of scotch tape around the end of it to keep the top pins from hitting the beveled lip on when rekeying.

What can I say, could of use a dowel but better to use wht your suppose to use. Worked great,
