Hua Hu Ching: The Unknown Teachings of Lao Tzu

Arguably better than the Tao Te Ching
It's unfortunate that this text is relatively "unknown" compared to the Tao Te Ching. Though it invokes the same familiar themes, the Hua Hu Ching completely avoids the clever, esoteric wordplay found in the Tao Te Ching and instead delivers a much more practical and personal lesson that feels more like a teacher than a text, and strikes me as offering a comparatively more approachable entry point for those unfamiliar with, but otherwise interested in, Taoism. I think those already familiar with Taoism are likely find this narrative to be surprisingly fresh and maybe even more sublime in a few places than they might expect, especially if, like me, they have made a habit of collecting numerous translations and interpretations of the Tao Te Ching. So, my advice is don't overlook or underestimate this text!

The True Eastern Philosopher's Translator
I found the Tao te Ching in 1960. I have read the writings of Chuang Tzu and the poets and of course, the translations of The Hua Hu Ching, The Tao Te Ching and The I Ching. Suffice it to say I have a full bookcase filled with these wonderful books. Some translators just don't get it. Brian Browne Walker is one who really understands these texts and his translations are authentic, beautiful, and so clear and simple. This translation is my very favorite of The Hua Hu Ching and I hold it closely to me. When I discovered the further teachings of Lao Tzu (The Old Sage) I was thrilled and I went through many many books. If you are interested in the I Ching or the Tao te Ching (or both) -- give yourself a great gift like Brian Browne Walker's translation of any of these texts. I own several forms of this book, Kindle, IPhone app and iPad app. Enjoy it and find the peace that is The Way. You won't regret it!!

no words
"the subtle truth of the universe is unsayable and unthinkable. therefore the highest teachings are wordless. my own words are not the medicine, but a prescription. not a destination, but a map to help you reach it...". no words of mine will explain this book---- but i have been studying the Tao Te Ching and the Zen masters for years. this is THE most accessible book in the genre---without going fluffy new age or diverting the original teachings off into some modern person's personal direction. i will be re-reading this book until it falls apart.

Wonderful translation of Lao Tzu's teachings.
I've read and re-read Lao Tzu over the years; he simply "speaks" to me on a deep level. Some of my favorite sayings of this great spiritual philosopher are found in this version of Lao Tzu's teachings. They can settle my mind while bringing me to deeper realizations and understandings of my life. I read this book by simply picking it up and flipping to a random page - whatever I find there is perfect.

Filled with insight and clarity in plain language
Despite the gleeful denunciations by the polemicists below, this is a fine book for almost anyone interested in the wisdom, if perhaps not the historic interdenominational hijinks of ancient Taoist sects.Master Ni Hua Ching should be applauded for encouraging a contemporary and accessible rendering of the texts. This is a brilliant distillation that demystifies the often confusingly literal translations that leave the reader to stumble through linguistic indecision. This book offers up the meaning we all want. It's an honest work presented in good spirit that any well-intentioned reader will appreciate. Clearly rendered meaning is humorously and joyfully presented.Don't miss this treasure.

Seller misrepresented book cover, therefore overpriced
Seller misrepresented book cover: the cover of the book issue sent to me matches other, plain tan-brown covers with sketches of koi fish, which were priced under $10, by other sellers. The book represented by this seller, with the green, hills and sunrise (or sunset) cover was priced at $14 plus shipping came to $19 and change. I chose this cover edition because a friend has same cover. While the cover does not matter concerning the contents of the book, it does matter concerning the appearance and gift value of the purchase. I presented seller with this complaint an have yet to hear back. Recommend to others to purchase edition directly from Amazon for under $10, with tan-brown cover with koi fish.

Fantastic book, fantastic service
I had seen Brian Walker's "Hua Hu Ching" in a local book store and picked up a copy. I loved it so much that I went to Amazon and ordered a copy for my wife. The book is fantastic, and essential for anyone who has read any translation of Lao Tzu's "Tao Te Ching".And as always Amazon provided top notch service, from placing the order to receiving the shipment. Thanks, Amazon.

Sets the reader up to admit that Wisdom in the ...
Sets the reader up to admit that Wisdom in the world is nothing new nor is it only a captive of the Western mind. Only a short reading at a time is enough to stop to think of one "aha" moment after another. So soothing to the capitalistic incentive driven demand to consume.
