Bought this tool to make clean cuts when running electrical wire and speaker cable inside protective Techflex braided sleeving. This tool melts the fiber ends and seals them. If you cut Techflex (braided sleeving) with scissors, because it is made from braided fiber strands, the ends will fray and the sleeve will begin to unravel. You NEED a hot knife to β€œcauterize” and melt the ends to prevent this. Also a soldering gun! *by D***Y on November 4, 2018* This is a soldering gun with a rope cutting tip. This is a bonus for me. My old Weller tips work on this gun. The is not small sleek and modern. It's big and plastic and looks like a retro 1980's tool. However, who cares about looks? The gun heats very fast. When I pick it up I pull the trigger and by the time I pull the rope or line taught, and bring the gun to the line it's ready to cut. Five stars for the price alone.
