Good, but not perfect, used product
Installed this in Access Point mode using a wired connection to my router. Wish it offered a 2.5gbps Ethernet connection as I am leaving about 250mbps of my Internet plan on the table using a gigabit Ethernet connection. The WiFi connection speed to my PC is 1201mbps receive and transmit, so that shouldn't be a limiting factor, but only gigabit Ethernet to the router is a bit limiting for me. At least in Access Point mode, this model allows the Internet Service Provider's gateway to assign the IP addresses to connected devices. The model from a different brand I previously had used an internal DHCP server to assign the IP addresses on a different IP Address range, so it would tend to cause some connectivity problems with certain applications. This TP-Link device does not suffer from that problem, which is a nice change. Bought a "Used - like new" model and it came with a password already assigned, but I just used a sim card removal tool to press the reset button for 5 seconds while the RE615X was plugged in and it went back to the factory default of asking me to set and confirm a password. Otherwise, no issues with the used unit and saved some money. Got a ~940mbps download speed with an average ping time to the gateway during the download of 44ms with my RE615X setup (2ms when nothing is downloading), vs ~380mbps with an average ping time to the gateway during the download of 210ms running with the wireless directly from the ISP provided gateway, so definitely an improvement using this extender in my setup. However, using a 2.5gbps Ethernet connection directly to the gateway, I got ~1175mbps downloads, so if I am going to download over 100GB, I'll still run an Ethernet cable down the hallway and into the living room and just be careful not to trip on it till the download finishes :) Had to go into the setting for both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz WiFi radio settings and turn on the best high-bandwith settings (and leave the power saving features disabled) in order to get the speeds I reported. They were not on by default. Replaced my existing WiFi extender because it started arcing electricity internally when touching it while plugged in and seemed to be a fire risk; this RE615X seems to run just a teeny bit warm and seems to be a much safer/better-designed product in every way.

So good I bought another one!
I live in an old house built in the forties that has a lot of lathe and plaster walls making dead spots prevalent all over the house. When you’re near the modem/router we get crazy good speed but as soon as you go down a hallway you start to drop off precipitously. I bought one of these range extenders as a shot in the dark to extend our wifi coverage to the backyard for these nice Ohio summer days on the iPad watching our Guardians play. The range extender worked so well I bought another one to further our household coverage! The range extender is slightly on the larger side as compared to an older extender I bought years ago that really didn’t work. This one also has two antennae that stick out and swivel up and down. I guess this is a nice feature to have but I wish there was a way to tell how your signal strength was being affected by a slight movement up or down of the antennae. Otherwise I just leave one pointed straight up and the other slightly angled at about 45º in the hopes this works best. Normally I’m opposed to downloading yet another app with the newest piece of hardware I buy but I did download Tether, the associated app with this device. To my surprise the app is extremely intuitive and well laid out and very user friendly. The app makes setting up the device extremely easy. Of note, when I did purchase the second extender it was just as easy to add the second one to the app. The app is a big reason I purchased another of the same extender rather than try another brand. Super easy to use and keeps things nice and tidy on the phone. The hardware/software combination has a ton of settings that I’m sure more advanced users will revel in but I was able to set up the extenders in almost no time flat and I was up and running. My main modem/router has the capability to enable OneMesh software as does these extenders but I chose not to enable this feature. A big problem I have with the OneMesh feature is that all the smart devices in the house (of which we have about 40) all seem to float on different connection points and if the phone isn’t on the same connection point the devices often don’t work correctly. I’ve had no issues with connection, speed, or signal strength since purchasing these two range extenders for the house. I am truly pleased with this TP-Link range extender product and couldn’t be happier with the results. I can now freely go about the house and keep a solid connection and I can sit about 100’ from the house and stream content on my iPad in the backyard now. Couldn’t recommend more highly. I do hope this review was helpful for you in some way. Cheers!

powerful wifi extender
i needed to extend our wifi in our house. i had tried another brand which only worked for a couple of months. this extender has been fantastic. the signal is clear, fast, and strong. our house is 2900 sq feet and we haven't had any problems. it works well with our alexa and blink systems. checking our signal speeds has consistently showed strong output from this device.
