Wonderful book, representing disability in a fun and inclusive way
I love this book! It has taken pride of place on my shelf alongside James Catchpole's You're So Amazing and What Happened To You. Positive representation of disability in general is sorely lacking but children's media are leading the charge in changing this, and none more so than in these books.Mama Car does so much to normalise and personalise disability in this funny, wonderfully illustrated and very real story.

Affirming, gentle, real
I loved this book! The illustrations bring to life a simple and compelling child's eye view of having a mum who uses a wheelchair.Every one has their wheels: Dad has big car and mum has mama car. Wheels are just what they are: a way of enabling movement and mothering.A brilliant "together read" and a gentle and easy way of introducing young children to the social and affirmative models of disability. Older children might also be challenged to think about life through the protagonist's eyes and the role of wheels for enablement.

Absolutly wonderful story
An absolutly fantastic story for children. Brilliant 'own voice' book from the wonderful Lucy who has captured the many ways her daughter loved her experiences with here mama in her wheelchair. Fab illustrations - so lovely I have bought two so one can be gifted.

The Most Beautiful Book
This beautiful book is such a rare find. The writer is incredibly skilled in capturing the voice of a young child. You truly feel every bit of the love they have for their Mummy and her Mama Car. The illustrations also perfectly match the warmth of the book. Every home and school should have a copy. I hope there will be more stories about these wonderful characters.

We love Mama Car
Such an important and beautiful book. Both myself and my grandchildren adore the illustrations and we love that I too am a wheelchair user who takes her grandbabies for a ride.

Absolutely brilliant! I love all the James & Lucys' disability-inclusive/awareness books!!
Loved ‘What Happened to You?. Loved ‘Your’e SO Amazing!’. Love ‘Mama Car’. I’m happy to say it’s a bestseller too, which is just so wonderful! Lucy and James Catchpole selflessly and humbly tell stories that reflect their own experiences as disabled people/parents/professionals in our world today. Lucy has partnered with Karen George once more to create a new fiction story - with recognisably Lucy and her husband James as mum and dad to the young child. In ‘Mama Car’, the reader listens to the youngster telling them all about life in their family. Some readers may find comfort and familiarity with the everyday of having a parent who is wheelchair bound, or who needs their child to assist them from time to time - picking up harmful objects in their path, reaching for something, helping with carrying items. For others, this is an insight into different lives, a chance to learn about other lived experiences, to think differently. This sweet family unit has expeditions and adventures both indoors and out - even familiar moments like falling from a bike can easily be remedied by feeling better all curled up on Mama’s lap where it’s all snuggly and safe. I’ve already read this in my bookshop storytime sessions, and look forward to sharing it in school book clubs using the new teaching resources that accompany the book.

Beautiful, cosy, real
This book is so cosy! Oh, the magical powers of an ‘own voice’ author . It’s simply a true little insight into cosy mama car life. We need more books like this, it’s SO positive and wonderful. Also bought one for my child’s school after reading it. Wholeheartedly recommend 💛
