Excellent little enclosure, good quality and future-proof
I have a heterogeneous home network with both Apple and PC items . At first I was looking at the Sonnet Fusion PCI based storage, but this seemed limited in both capacity and interface type. I wanted to set up a 2014 Mac Mini as a NAS server to backup both Macs and PCs, and at the same time have a more robust alternative to USB sticks in case I needed DAS in the future.Looking to the future is why I bought this. It has a 2nd generation USB 3.1 interface, but the enclosure is supplied with both a same-to-same adapter as well as a USB 3.1 to A (generation 3) adapter. This means I can currently link it to any PC and get decent throughput, and when 3.1 gen 2 (aka thunderbolt 3) becomes standard, I will be benefitting from even greater speeds simply by changing the cable, without needing to upgrade the unit. The case is really well built, they must have specified good manufacturing tolerances because it slots together nicely. It came with a magnetized screwdriver which was handy, and save me rummaging for my own. It felt like it was quicker and simpler to install the drives into the unit than it had been to remove them from their Western Digital boxes and remove all the padding and antistatic.I went with two 1TB WD blue drives, which I set up in JBOD configuration, so I could format one as HFS+ for the Mac and ExFAT for Windows. I toyed with the idea of high capacity SSDs but decided the premium wasn't worth it. I haven't needed to explore the other RAID options, but such things are become so application read/write specific that your mileage will always vary. It's sitting on my desk, looks unobtrusive and a bit like a miniaturised Apple Xserve. My mechnical drives are wound down silent, unless a backup is running then I hear a very faint whirr, much quieter than a fan would be, as this is a passive enclosure. It's deceptively compact, I thought it might be as wide as two HDDs side by side but they are installed one in front, one in the back. There are two small blue lights which seem de-rigeur on portable enclosures, but they are more discreet than the glowing eye on the Lacie enclosure (which was also a close contender). So all in all very happy. I checked out Oyen's website thinking it would be a Far Eastern exporter and it turns out that it is a US based boutique technology supplier of some years standing. They seem to have a proper contact details for technical support and online manuals. It's all useful in terms of establishing whether it represents good value for money, because in my experience I've got through some cheap enclosures where there has been no chance of warranty. I sincerely think that this is one of the best bargains on Amazon, and this as much as anything has compelled me to write this review since I know there will be people like me looking for similar assurance.By the way I am a UK citizen and bought through a Dutch distributor on Amazon, so the only minor fault I found is that the power unit needed a UK adapter. I paid for my unit, no connections to the company etc. I simply respect quality and am very happy to encounter it at this price level.

So easy to set up
Took me less than 1 hour from start to finish setting it up - it would probably have taken less had I *really* read the instructions ;-) - my bad ! And also their *bad* of a couple of other reviewers who obviously didn't really read the sheet too.Mine is set at RAID 1 and I'm using a couple of spare Samsung SSDs I had available. as it will be used to store image files on photo trips and the redundancy is great in case there is an issue. BTW, within the 1 hour assembly took I did do a disk failure check to ensure the RAID had worked. No problems with my backup software (FreeFileSync) recognising the device and I find RAID 1 throughput more than acceptable.

An excellent dual bay external case, albeit a bit pricey
Having purchased 2 similar products before, I was after a new product but this time I wanted "pure" usb-c transfer speeds and wanted good-looker for my desk. The MiniPro RAID V3 USB 3.1 Type-C, is an excellent product and is unbelievably fast! Although I have used external raid solutions with two Samsung 860 pro SSD's, putting the SSD's in this drive with a type-c to type-c cable (your PC/Laptop must support it) makes this external drive, astonishingly fast! The quality of the product is quite good, but I think its overpriced. Thus, the 4 stars, instead of 5 stars.

Comes only with US power supply
No use in UK/European market place as only comes with a US power supply.

Sturdy and reliable
I was looking for something compact that could hold two 15mm disks and this enclosure is perfect for that. It's well built, super sturdy, has a USB C connector for fast data tranafer, and doesn't heat up much. It's made of metal, not plastic. Several months in, it's been very reliable. Amazing enclosure. Highly recommended!

Great external drive
Great compact external drive, host powered, and allegedly works with big drives, not tested that bit yet. Really fast too, I’m impressed.

Used with 2 x high capacity SSDs (2x4TB Samsung Evo ...
Used with 2 x high capacity SSDs (2x4TB Samsung Evo and 2x7.5TB Micron ). Only used it on USB 3.0, but very fast. Both averages over 300MBps sustained read and write as RAID 0. You need to use the external PSU if connecting to USB 3.0.

Good… but…
I use mine to house a pair of 5TB Seagate Barracuda HDDs flitting between several different Macs and, in the 2+ years I’ve been using it, performance and reliability has been pretty good. It is fairly compact, light, looks good, runs cool, quiet and mostly without issue. If used with a power adapter and good quality Thunderbolt/USB C cable then it’s nearly flawless. When used without a power adapter and poor quality cable then it can be susceptible to unexpected disk ejects. However, if using a Mac running MacOS Sonoma (ie. an M1, M2 or M3 Mac) then I would NOT recommend this enclosure as it will suffer from unexpected disk ejects as well as incessant disk spin ups/downs, disk parking and disk sleeping. No amount of system software tweaking will rectify all of these issues. Using a power adapter and high quality Thunderbolt cable helps to minimise the disk ejects but not the disk sleeping/spin up or down issues. Running the exact same setup on pre-Sonoma Mac is completely trouble-free. Contacting Oyen Digital for assistance (twice) was, to be frank, less than helpful.Overall, this is a good product—especially for 2.5” 15mm 5TB drives as portable RAID enclosures for them are hard to find—but not perfect.

Great product, do yourself a favour and buy one
Upgrading from an old spinning disk external drive (a 2014 Transcend 2TB).I considered the Monoprice 133374, before dropping it, and shortlisting the OWC Mercury Elite Pro & Oyen MiniPro.Both the OWC and Oyen units use the same chipset (ASM1352R). The Oyen is a bit lighter, 400 vs 600g, but other than that very similar products.Oyen provide a 2yr warranty vs the OWC 1yr, which signals to me they are more invested in quality products. Also the OWC was $20 more expensive at the time (it's cheaper right now, I presume due to poor sales).I mailed each company to ask if 15W via USB-C was enough to power the enclosure, and two SSDs drawing max 4w without a PSU. Oyen mailed me straight back the next morning with a concise reply. OWC mailed me three times over two days to say they didn't know how to get the information, before a tech finally contacted me five days later. So for support Oyen clearly the winner, and a slightly lighter product. Anyway a few months later I got around to ordering and am very happy with the unit already.Build quality is good, configuring RAID was simple, and nice small touches like including a screwdriver, and a thank you note / contact card in the box.Good quality USB-C/C and USB-C/A cables (with velcro straps) are included, little feet to provide airflow underneath the case, spare screws, and a PSU (which you don't need with 15W USB).

Top-Produkt!

Wish I'd bought this from the start
I've lost so much data using cheap USB raid enclosures (especially StarTech, but many random off-brands as well).. they all either overheat when the fan silently dies, don't support SMART (so you can't tell when a drive's about to fail), have severe UAS or even usb-storage bugs, crash intermittently, or just plain don't work at all.I would have thought a USB JBOD would be just about the simplest PC component you can build - a power supply, a USB->SATA chip, some connectors, and some steel. Apparently not.I've only had this MiniPro for a few days now, but I've been running it hard. Quite simply, it works. SMART (and smartctl under Linux) works flawlessly. It's passively cooled and silent. I have had zero issues pushing 5TiB around several times, and that's powered directly off a single USB 3.0 port with two Seagate 15mm 5TiB drives! Built like a tank. And fast - current file-level copy from one drive to the other is running at:sdb 247.00 0.00 126464.00 0 126464sdd 441.00 112896.00 0.00 112896 0.. almost 240MB/sec, to spinning media. No doubt maxxing both drives out.I'll update if anything goes wrong, but so far this enclosure gets a solid 5.0 stars. A correctly functioning USB JBOD *is* possible. Who knew!*Update - 2018/08/28*About a month ago my array started disconnecting under heavy I/O. I emailed Oyen's support team, and they shipped me out a replacement board - no questions asked. The new board solved the issue, and I'm back up and running. Look no further; this is the one to buy.
