Product Description Woody Allen writes, directs and stars in this classic comedy which follows hopeless theatrical agent Danny (Allen) as he tries to revive the career of Lou Canova (Nick Apollo Forte), a singer who is involved with the Mafia. Unable to perform without his mistress Tina (Mia Farrow) at his concerts, Danny offers to bring her along as if she was his girlfriend so as not to arouse suspicion with Lou's wife. However, the pair soon find themselves running for their lives, when two mobsters mistakenly think Danny is attempting to make a move on Tina behind Lou's back. .co.uk Review Broadway Danny Rose is vintage Woody Allen. Danny (Allen) is a down-at-heel theatrical agent whose regular clients include talking bird acts and a man who twists balloons into animal shapes. His faith in these eccentrics never fails, despite the fact that everyone leaves him for another agent in the end. Complications ensue when one of his clients, an overweight crooner, starts a romance with a mafia widow (excellently played by Allen's partner of the time, Mia Farrow). The mob think Danny is her boyfriend, forcing the two of them to take evasive action, at one point dodging bullets among giant floats for a forthcoming Fourth of July parade. The script is witty, the acting superb, the situations inventive. The film is shot in black and white and looks superb for it. On the DVD: The DVD is widescreen, with extremely clear sound so you won't miss a single wisecrack. Dialogue is available in French, German, Italian and Spanish as well as English. It's a pity, however--since the film is so short (84 minutes)--that there are no extras apart from the theatrical trailer. --Ed Buscombe

If I May Interject!
I loved Manhattan but honestly feel this is just as good? Woody is at his most chatty, witty and endearing, but is also, as always, down on his luck and frantically trying to get things right. This film is all about ‘living to a code.’ The tale depicts loyalty, honesty, dedication, even a resigned acceptance, but always trying your best for all concerned and doing the right thing. Danny may not be big time, however, he’s always there for you, he may not get all he deserves, but thankfully the Brit’s looked after him with a ‘BAFTA’ for this wonderful little classic. If you like Woody and haven’t seen this then this should be top of your list, as this is Woody Allen at his absolute peak.

Ruined by Mia Farrow
This film was ruined by miscasting Mia Farrow as a moll. Her facial expressions and manner are far too middle class and Woody Allen may have been aware of this because Mia's face is covered throughout by enormous black glasses. She has no comic timing. It made the plot seem laborious and plodding.

Another masterpiece from Woody
Very touching, slightly sad and poignant story about a loser, played to perfection by Woody Allen. And funny in the usual Woody Allen way. Subtle and well observed and a fantastic performance by Mia Farrow.Shot in black and white - and all the better for it [ just like Stardust Memories and Manhattan ] . A classic and must have for your collection - not in the Manhattan, Crimes and Misdemeanours, Sleeper league but still brilliant. I play a Woody Allen film at least once a week - he is one of the greatest directors of all time MHO. See other reviews for plot line details

Heartwarming comedy
I had not seen this film for many years - a really heartwarming comedy with Woody Allen at his best. Who can ever forget the mantra "Star, Smile, Strong"! Cleverly directed with some good gags and marvellous sayings from uncles and ancestors thrown in - absolutely priceless!

One of Woody's finest.
I last saw Broadway danny rose about 20years ago and it was one of those films that seem to stick with you, I have to say after watching it again recently that it's lost none of its charm, it has all the ingredients of a great woody Allen film, a clever/funny story with a great cast, with the highlight being woody playing danny rose. I could write a great big long review about why I enjoyed watching this, but the easiest thing to say is just watch this film, especially if your a fan of Woody Allen, I'm sure you will enjoy it.

Nostalgic Allen
Danny Rose is a hopeless theatrical agent who books hopelessly bad lounge acts. He meets a gangsters moll who wants to be a star and the mob mistake Danny for her boyfriend. This is a nostalgic film with Allen talking about the music of the 50's. Well acted with good performances from Woody Allen as yet another neurotic character and Allen regular Mia Farrow and well shot in black and white. It's amusing but Allen has made better films.
