cheap but not for hard water areas
This is great value and under thirty quid currently. It's undoubtedly pretty and although the features are basic, it works well and is quite quick. Pours well and not over noisy. It's not the best for hard water areas though - sadly even having filtered water mine has not coped well.

This kettle keeps on boiling and boiling and boiling !
DO NOT buy this kettle if you are drawn to it by the attractive ‘blue’ image used in the advertising. The image is totally enhanced and adjusted to make it look as if the water is somehow illuminated as it boils. It is not. See the photos I took. The ‘blue’ is almost invisible from all angles. Now as a kettle, it’s great, it boils water !BUT. When is starts boiling you think it will cut off after 2-3-4, maybe 5 seconds, it does not! 12-15+ seconds after it starts boiling and you are hovering over it wondering if it will ever cut out and it does, but not before you panic and wonder if it might boil dry if you ever left in unattended. So, forget the blue, watch out for a kettle that keeps boiling for at least 12 or maybe even 15 seconds after it should cut out and make your purchasing decision from that.

Looks great, function is a little lacking.
What I really liked, the look, the glass design is really lovely and the whole blue light thing is really attractive. How long it will stay pretty in a really hard water area like mine remains to be seen.Things that bothered me but I wouldn't knock a star off for. No button operated lid, just something I think every kettle I have owned has had, it's something I can get used to. No filter on the spout (or close to it) but this is somewhat countered by being able to see inside the kettle and knowing when it needs a swirl out to get the loose fur out or a full descale. It seems to boil for a long while before the stat switches it off (at least compared to my previous kettles) which becomes a bigger problem in the last part of my review...Thing(s) I did knock a star off for. There is no bezel or steam seal around the lid, the whole top of the kettle is the actual lid so there's very little to stop the steam pouring out around the lid when the kettle is boiling hard, and it does boil hard for some while before switching off. The steam actually comes out towards the top of the handle, something I realised when I grabbed the boiled kettle by the uppermost part of the handle and got a tap from the hot steam.I tried taking a picture of the steam coming out near the handle but it fogged the lens of my phone. After the boiling had subsided you can see the condensation by the handle bearing witness to the volume of steam that came out and back.I get that with the design choice made to have the whole top as the lid that some compromise has to be made between sealing the lid and making it easy to open, but I think the compromise here is wrong, sealing the lid at least by the handle should be paramount. It's for that reason that I offer three stars as a review.

Stylish and simple, the blue glow adds a touch of class
This Hamilton beach illuminating glass kettle arrived well packaged in a cardboard box. It was simple to set up and go, all I needed to do was remove the plastic cover over the plug pins and place the kettle on its base.To fill the kettle you physically open the lid (no button to push). The lid opens easy and to close the lid I find it best to push shut with the palm of my hand.I filled the kettle up to the 1.7 L max level, turned the kettle on and timed it. It took 5.07 mins to complete the boil.Whilst the kettle is boiling the water has a subtle blue tinge to it. This emulates from the inside base of the kettle that has an array of blue LEDS.The kettle felt balanced when pouring the water out and I did not see any ‘kettle dribbles’ when pouring. Most of my recent kettles have had some sort of mesh near the spout to catch the limescale, however this one does not. Presumably, this is due to the kettle body and spout being glass.I found the overall look of the kettle to be quite stylishly and simple, the blue glow adding a touch of class. The only slight negative for me is that as I live in a hardwater area this all glass kettle will show signs of scaling. I appreciate this is not a fault on the part of the kettle, I will just need to descale frequently to keep the kettle looking clean and new.

Modern style kettle
The media could not be loaded. A really cool looking kettle. If needed for a modern style kitchen ,or simply you like your kettle to have a cool style, this may be the one.The blue light when on makes this kettle outstanding. The fact that you can actually see the water boiling through the glass makes it uneven more special.Effective ,good looking ,perfect for any household.Price reflects its quality.Happy with it!

Needs some simple upgrades
I have had a glass kettle previously and possibly, as we are in a hard water area, it didn’t last long. I decided to give this one a try as I was offered it to review. Here are some points to consider:• It sits on a base which plugs in so you can lift the actually jug to a tap to fill it and leave the base/cord in situ.• You need to physically remove the lid to fill it as there is no press button release. In time there is potential for this plastic to break/chip• The kettle looks good at present ie new with its clear glass and blue light which comes on with the heating• It takes quite a time to boil – not slow but I would not class this as quick boil• Noise – again not quiet but I’ve heard worse.• It pours ok but there is no filter in the spout so in time, I will be pouring limescale build up into my tea. It will need descaling weekly to both look good and prevent limescale bits in our drinks. In conclusion, would I buy it – no, certainly there are kettles with small extra benefits at a similar if not lower cost.
