tbh i only got this because it looks a little cleaner and it also makes it easier to apply thermal paste, and it does both of those things great! i doubt this has any effect at all on cpu temps but it’s nice to have if you want. easy enough to install too.

This is a simple solution to a semi complex issue. The standard retaining bracket for most CPUs has been around for what seems like ages and with newer, more power hungry chips, there was a need for a product like this to help, along with the integrated heat spreader from the mfg. and adequate thermal paste, to remove the heat generated from all that power. This is the cost effective way to create a flat level surface for your cooler to mount to and create a stable and even pressure. I would suggest these for any chip over 100W.

The AM5 CPU's do not suffer from the bending issues that the Intel IHS does. So this won't effect the AM5 CPU's temperatures. On the other hand, it has one great benefit (and the reason I purchased it) and that is keeping your thermal compound off your surface mount bits on the CPU itself. It looks fantastic too, but after you get your heat sink on you'll never see it again. In case anyone is wondering it is not conductive due to being anodized. But the it's a bit misleading claiming this is anti-bending in that the AM5 CPU just don't bend in a way that causes problems. That being said though, it will provide more uniform tension to the entire CPU than the clamp the board comes with. It just looks and feels more secure, but to be fair I've not had IHS/clamp issues on the AM4 or AM5 cpu's. But this thing will make cleanup of your CPU so much easier and that alone is worth the investment.

This is one of those parts that costs almost nothing but matters more than the price tag suggests. AM5 sockets are known for CPU bending issues from cooler mounting pressure, especially with heavier air coolers or AIOs. This frame distributes that pressure evenly across the socket instead of letting it concentrate on the corners, which is exactly the failure point that causes bent pins and contact issues on the chip. Installation was simple. It sits around the CPU socket before you mount your cooler, lines up with the existing mounting holes, and doesn't interfere with stock backplate hardware. Took maybe five extra minutes compared to a standard install. The real value is the peace of mind. Once your cooler is torqued down, you're not wondering if you applied too much pressure on one side or if the board is flexing under the mount. That's a real concern when you're talking about a CPU that costs hundreds of dollars sitting on a socket that's known to bend. Build quality feels solid, no flex or give in the frame itself, and the included hex tool is a nice touch so you're not hunting for the right size in your toolbox. For under $9, this is the easiest upgrade to justify on any AM5 build. Honestly surprised more people don't add this by default. Would recommend to anyone building or upgrading a Ryzen system, especially if you're running a higher end cooler with more mounting pressure.

This is probably unnecessary because the AM5 socket is square, but after I installed it I really felt like it should be the default instead of those ZIF sockets. It also made applying the thermal paste so much easier. I don't have a before and after for the temps, but I get cool temperatures consistently so if nothing else it's not hurting anything. When I installed it, I admired how cool it looked before I sealed it away forever underneath the AIO pump.

The hardest part of installation was removing the boards original holder. That sucker popped right up and skidded across the pins. This was easy to install. All you need to do is put your CPU in the socket, slip this over it and screw it into the board with the little wrench that comes with it. That's it. Does it actually lower temps? I really don't know. I got it for its looks. I can be shallow like that.

Looks great on the mobo once installed. But only for those few moments before the cooler covers it. I bought it more or less to prevent the thermal paste from being pushed down to the sides of the CPU.
