Great bass kit
This is my second purchase of this kit, the RB Bass. Wood is great, neck fit in the pocket perfectly (neck must be glued) The weakest parts of this kit are the electronics and some of the screws. The pickups for both kits were wired out of phase, which resulted in a thin hollow sound when using both pups, as well as some bizarre volume discrepancies. Some strings are WAY louder than others, which can be mitigated to some degree by adjusting the angle of the pups and string height. Cutting the wires and resoldering them opposite corrected the phase issue. All in all, you can 100% get a usable, gig-worthy bass from these kits if you put some time and effort in.

Plays like 5 stars, but the condition of parts brings it down
Now, the parts all work for the most part, but there were complications. The neck pickup didn't go down far enough that it would clear the strings, or maybe it did! I wouldn't know because the screws broke in half while it was in the body, and we had to pull them out and get new screws. The pickup cover is too low, even if you lower the action. We had to install our own spacers made out of wood so it would not hit the strings.Lastly, the instruction manual is pretty good, but it is kind of confusing. You get a plastic packet with eight sections, and different pages tell you what section to use. That would be great if every chapter told you, but they don't! Only some do.It is very fun to play, and the quality of it overall is pretty good. Just kinda surprising that two screws broke, and the cover was too low. Definitely get this if you want a Rickenbacker for cheaper! It sounds great.

Bought it to mod it
I purchased this bass kit because it has that Rickenbacker classic style. I did a Tru oil finish with eggplant dye on the front of the body and graphite on the back. It came out really nice with 4 coats of Tru oil. The neck had some flame to it and the oil set it off nicely. I added a Hip shot bridge and A Wilkinson bridge pickup and a Semour Duncan neck pickup . I made a new pick guard with black pearloid. The bass sounds nice and works ok. Now for the bad,,,, the neck is too wide toward the body for a 4 string bass, just looks cheep, they should reset the CNC to make it slimmer. The pots are junk and roll on to the point of cancelling the volume. And the pickup cover is a tad too low and the strings can contact it when playing hard. Overall an ok kit.EDIT: I did some more modding and this is what I did, I swapped out the pots for full size 250kohms. added spacers under the bridge pickup cover and installed flat wound strings. WOW! the pots really woke this bass up,, big time!,,, LOL ,, now I don't care about the width of the neck..
