Works Good
Bought this for my wife for when she's walking to her car at night. It is very loud. Hopefully she won't have to use it. Fits on her keychain but is a little bulky.

LOUD
I go on early morning walks - half in the dark - with my dogs and lately we have been having human problems. As in, petty criminal mischief. I'd rather not meet one of these folks without some kind of way to scare them off (my dogs will help too). I really like these Safesound alarms. I now walk with two on my person in easy reach in case I need to pull the plug (so to speak). These little alarms are LOUD. I mean LOUD. For such a small object, I did not expect the kind of noise these put out. While it's not as loud as say... an alarm siren on a home security system, it is plenty loud enough to get the attention of anyone remotely in the area and should be a pretty good deterrent to anyone approaching with nefarious intentions.Don't rely on the flashlight to do much for you. It's pretty tiny and weak. If it runs off the same battery as the alarm, I'd rather save the battery for the alarm and carry a separate flashlight (which I do).I'm going to get these alarms for several of my friends. While these seem to be marketed toward women, they aren't a bad thing for men to carry too.

Made of Plastic
I ordered this set of 2 personal alarms. The set came with a black and white one. Each has a clip on the end to attach to a keychain or a purse. And each has a little flashlight. They are powered by 2 AAA batteries (included). The alarm is set off by pulling the pin on the top out and pushing it back in to shut it off. You have to apply a fair amount of tension to pull the pin out. I just realized that the big circle on the front that looks like a button must be the "speaker" for the sound. It is pretty loud especially in close proximity. I would think it would get someone's attention within a 100 foot radius depending on the surroundings and noise in your vicinity. You need to have the speaker free of obstacles for it to sound the loudest. It is supposed to be 130 decibels loud. The flashlight also flashes when the siren goes off. Good to have on hand in these times.

VERY Loud AND comes with a flashlight
My 21 year old granddaughter works in the Special-Ed department of a high school here in Texas. She tells me that by law, due to their mental state, there is very little they can do to protect themselves from these students if one becomes violent and attacks her. Basically run away. Which then leaves the other students unprotected. I got this alarm for her with hopes that if she goes from an adult leader to a victim she would have some other recourse to alert other adults that there is a problem. It is small enough to be carried on a key ring, and when activated, is EXTREMELY loud. Pulling the pin requires enough force that it won't be accidentally activated. It also comes with a handy flashlight that can be used in the event of a power failure.Knowing that she will have this within reach, gives this old grandpa more peace of mind!

Simple, durable alarm with tiny light
I like the loud high pitched alarm. It hurts. The trigger mechanism for the alarm is a little hard to engage. In other words, you have to pull hard to get the alarm to go on. That's not a bad thing, as you don't want to accidentally engage the alarm. And once you figure out that you need to pull hard, it's simple. The LED light is sufficient for finding a keyhole in the dark. It's not enough to frighten an attacker. It's not a strobe light. It's just a tiny light.Overall, the device is sturdy and feels like it will last. It's a bit bulky. However, to attach to a handbag, it's perfect. To put on a keychain and in tight pants, it's a bit large. I think that's the tradeoff. It's heavy duty and good for a backpack or purse.
