Good Battery Charger
Have used the battery conditioning cycle and soft charge. So far no problem with either of them and I've had this charger going nonstop since I got it. Haven't used fast charge as there has been no need as yet. Big believer in charging NiMH batteries slower. When I use the turbo mode, if there is any problem I'll report back.

nice, but 980 is better
at the end I liked my MH-C940 less than MH-C980. I bought both to use the latter for fast charging, the first one for being more gentle to my batteries when I don't need speed. however, the 940 appeared to be more picky to batteries, not the way around. might it be the fan on the 980? I don't know.

The best you can buy
I have had two of these chargers before and I can honestly say they are outstanding. You can recondition your batteries occasionally - I was in a cabin in the woods for a LONG time - and this served me perfectly in a retreat where I did not leave the cabin area .. I leave my batts in the charger when I swap them out. Occasionally you will find a device that drains one battery more than another - when they start getting hinky, I just do a renovate battery cycle. works very very well. Also, you can set the battery charger to take longer to charge - thus helping your battery lifespan. It's a VERY versatile charger. Cannot recommend enough if you want an absolutely solid smart charger that will serve you for years.

Powerex brand has gone downhill in quality, do not rely on for professional situations
Greatly disappointed in the quality of the Powerex brand. I have used their chargers and batterie for over two decades professionally. My first charger lasted 10 years. Replaced it. Next one worked 10 years. Replaced it, out of the box didn't work. All this extra fancy tech has made the product less reliable. It feels cheaper. I can't trust this brand anymore for my professional

Loose power plug and dangerously hot batteries
Possibly a bad unit but when I move the charger it shuts off and resets. Also when I was able to do a normal (not turbo) charge by leaving the unit stationary by the end of the charge the batteries were too hot to touch. Feels like bad overcharging happening. This happened with various brands. Eneloop, brand new Amazon basics 2000mAh, older Fujitsu brands it didnโt matter. The unit itself also gets uncomfortable to touch near the end of a charge cycle. Mainly near the power supply input. Overall a disappointing charger from a brand that usually gets good reviews. Returning the unit to try a different brand. Updated to say that there are a few reports of this charger not charging properly I found on google / popular forums. It may not have been just my unit.

Has conditioning function that makes batteries last longer!
I already have a cheaper battery charger but it didn't hack a conditioning function. This one does and was the main selling point for me. It comes with a battery case to store loose batteries which is a bonus. You can charge 8 AA or AAA batteries at a time. It has 3 modes, charging, turbo charging, and conditioning. Both charging modes worked well. Turbo chsrges almost twice as fast than regular charging. At the end of recharging cycle, it tells you the estimated mAh of each battery. I was surprised that some batteries were way below thier described capacity while others were above. But I've never had a battery capacity reader so I'll take it's word. My main interest was the conditioning mode. The instructions says it takes 48 hours and it's true! Once completed, it'll say done and the estimated battery capacity for each battery. I'm not sure if conditioning would increase the batteries' capacity but that would be great. I've been slowing reconditioning all my 60+ batteries for almost 2 months. It took me this long because I was waiting for each battery to run out ๐. I did notice that the conditioned batteries lasted longer than before! So my conclusion is that this charger somehow reconditioning the batteries making them last longer! Overall, for $49.99 on sale as of this review, I do think it's a little expensive. But if you factor in that it reconditioning your batteries, making them last longer so you won't have to buy new batteries, then it's definitely worth it in the long run. I really like it and highly recommended it! 5 ๐ s.

Good charger
I was a little confused about how this charger works with only 2 buttons. What you do is put the batteries in and then you have a short time to choose the option to refresh them, with the left button or turbo charge with the right button. Or, if you do nothing, it does the default slow charge. That is probably the only setting I'm likely to use much. I wouldn't fast charge them as I think that is kind of bad for the battery. I might, very occasionally do the refresh, but the manual said it takes a very long time. Once the batteries are charging, you can use the right and left button to cycle through the batteries one by one to see the readout for that batter. It only tells you the capacity of the battery if you do the refresh mode. Otherwise it is telling you how much energy was put into it in this charging session. If you hold both buttons at the same time for a few seconds it makes it so that the backlight stays on. I'm happy with the charger overall.
