Friedrich Becker: Kinetic Jewellery

I bought this book as a present for my sister who makes her own jewellery.She was delighted by it. I was fascinated by it!We sat down for a couple of hours going through it together, her pointing out the artistic side of the particular piece and myself (I'm an engineer) trying to figure out how each piece worked. Some I got, some I'm still intrigued by. As a craftsman, Becker was obviously superb. The skill involved in some of these pieces is beautiful in its own right. I think we both got a lot more out of the book with each other's inputs. As, when appreciated together, the technical and artistic sides to Becker's work compliment each other perfectly and enhance the piece.The book was well laid out with beautiful photos of all the pieces and can be flipped through just to browse the art in itself.Not cheap. But as a book one will keep coming back to, and keep for years, it's thoroughly worth it.

I am a jewellery designer/maker and always wanted this book. It arrived a day late but well packaged and crisp.The hardback brand new book is as expected and I am so happy with it.

Whether you're interested in kinetic jewelry, or you just like beautiful photos of jewelry, this book is fantastic. I've never seen work like his anywhere. For him, kinetic is not just a matter of adding some hinges or dangles, but designing hidden devices that allow the jewelry to change its shape, or to move in surprising ways.Get it as a fabulous coffee table book, or an invaluable reference work. It can be difficult to obtain, but is well worth the wait.
