Kept me guessing throughout!
Olive is sitting alone at dinner in a hotel one night, when she is approached by a woman claiming to be her wife which leads to a complicated situation! It starts with a few different threads and had me wondering how they would all end up being connected and thought it was a great listen with a lot of twists. I had many theories going on in my mind!I listened to the audiobook read by Colleen Prendergast and Frazer Hadfield who were both fantastic

Classic Bolton at her best
I have read every one or Sharon Bolton‘s books and enjoyed them all immensely, but this is definitely one of her very best. There are various twists and turns in the plot and although I thought I saw some of them coming she’s still managed to out with me.As always, the characters are well drawn and entirely believable, the plot fast moving, and the conclusion incredibly satisfying.

Tight, twisty and tense
This was my first book by Sharon Bolton, and I have to say I was impressed with her tight, twisty plotting and strong characterization. The audio possibly made it harder to follow the multiple timelines, as the shifts are not always flagged, but the male and female narrators did a brilliant job, and once I had a proper grasp on the story, I found this hard to turn off.The premise involves the disappearance of Olive, the wife of a prominent MP, who gets picked up by a female stranger in a hotel restaurant, and after a night of passionate sex, finds herself in an uncomfortable and scary situation. On the case are DS Lexy Thomas and traffic cop Garry Mizen, who are thrown together when a snowstorm necessitates the provision of a driver and vehicle to ferry Lexy around. I absolutely loved the dynamic between these two, whose banter often had me chuckling, providing a welcome contrast to an otherwise overwhelmingly tense narrative. What I appreciated most about the plot, though, was its complexity, and how it kept me on my toes trying to figure out how all the various strands were going to come together. My jaw dropped more than once.It does get quite dark in places, with a mind-boggling tangle of sexual relationships, some of which turn out to be sordid and coercive. But these added a bit of a gritty edge to the narrative, which I liked a lot.I think what Bolton has created here is a clever blend of psychological thriller, domestic drama and crime procedural, with all three very well executed. I am ready for more! Thanks for reading my review. I hope you found it helpful.

Easy read
Quite a good story although with a bit of a predictable ending. Shame about all the inaccuracies about the north east.

4 stars
This was my first book by Sharon Bolton and certainly won’t be my last!! Why are we only meeting now?! What a great storyteller!! I was so caught up with that ‘what the hell is going on?’ feeling mixed with the enjoyment of discovery as everything slowly unfolded, coming together in a delightful sense of dawning realisation. This reads as a thriller should, plenty of twists and turns that felt ‘natural’ to the story without being glaringly obvious or predictable from the start. I loved how so many little things tied in together so subtly which felt very clever. The chapters start short and grow in length as everything unravels which keeps the pace flowing fabulously and really builds on the tension. This is the kind of book you can kick back and relax with but it still keeps your brain ticking over too!! I’ve already been on the prowl for more books by this author!!I’d recommend this to:Fans of sexy, domestic thrillers and feminine rage lovers - I mean how can you not love an unhinged woman?! We are the best 😉
