Any tiki aficionado knows that pebble ice is integral to quality drinks. However, even with the inordinate amount of rum drinks I imbibe, I couldn't justifying purchasing an Opal pebble ice maker (and didn't want the inevitable headaches from the cheaper varieties) and don't have any fast food sources like Sonic nearby to provide the needed style of ice. These ice cube trays solved that dilemma entirely. It's not technically "pebble ice" but rather mini cubes, however they dilute very similarly and look beautiful in glassware. The trays are a sturdy plastic -- unlike a lot of silicone trays that are correctly maligned online -- and can be stacked fairly easily if freezer space is tight (though it will take the lower trays longer to freeze if stacked). Four trays will yield enough ice for 3-5 drinks, depending on volume, which is on the low side, but it's not too hard to plan ahead a few days to stockpile/bag the ice so there's always reserves. Or you can do what I did and buy a second set!

The next best thing to crushed ice—I love it!

I was getting sick of bending my fingernails on the silicone ice cube trays we had, and them tasting terrible after melting in our drinks. This was the perfect solution - smaller cubes means more surface area in total that will cool the drinks faster! Not only that but they only take a couple hours to freeze all the way though, reducing the weird freezer burn taste in the cubes! I did give "durability" 4 starts instead of 5 just because the container seems a little flimsy so i do anticipate it not lasting all that long, but the trays themselves seem to be doing good after a few days of emptying/refilling and dont feel like they're gonna snap when bending slightly to release the cubes. The cubes themselves release super easily and i really appreciate that they can stack without getting stuck to eachother! Definitely a winner of a product!!

I love the chipped small ice from the chicken joints. This isn’t quite the same, but to yield those sorts of results, you’ll likely have to drop a couple hundred dollars on a clunky countertop machine. That’s not something I’m willing to do for small ice cubes, so this’ll have to do. For what it is though, I can’t complain. Trays are easily filled and easily emptied, and the storage container stores the ice well. No real complaints here, and I’d certainly recommend.
