Ignore The Ignorant

Only played twice, but sounds solid. Nothing yet strikes me as being as good as "We Share the Same Skies".

I wanted to broaden my music collection and this has got some great guitar playing.

This album isn't bad on its own merits, but I don't think it stands up to the earlier Cribs albums (especially The New Fellas). It all just sounds so clean and professional, where the other albums could've been recorded in someone's front room! I'm still very interested to hear what the band come up with next, but I just hope they go back to their roots as they have recorded some belters before this.

This is an incredible album. I wasn't familiar with the Cribs before (this is their 4th album I think) and being a massive guitar head decided to take a chance on this after hearing Marr was playing on it. I saw the kitsch video for 'Cheat On Me' on NME.COM and was really, really impressed - the vocals on the track are (and on the rest of the album) utterly brilliant.Anyway, I found it hard to believe that each song on this album just got progressively better and better - you listen to 'We Share The Same Skies' and in your heart youre thinking, 'Thats easily gotta be the highlight of the album.. the rest is gonna be filler' To my delight this was FAR from the case as the moody shudder of 'City Of Bugs' lurches into view - blowing it of the water and then the crowning glory of the absolutely exquisite 'Save Your Secrets' - its just totally sublime indie, the songwriting is unquestionably brilliant, the two guitarists play their hearts out and the singing... Jesus I cant believe how great the two twins sound on each song. It feels like i've discovered something uniquely special with this record (and band).So these guys then, are my new favourite band - so much so that i'm gonna be investing in the rest of their back catalogue come Christmas. A genuinely likable bunch who it seems we can really believe in for a change. A rarity in 2009.BTW you should definitely get the CD with the DVD version - theres a little documentary about the band and they all seem like brilliant, down to earth blokes. I hope Marr stays with them for good, theyre a great fit.Any genuine fan of music could not fail to see the beauty of this album - many thanks to the Cribs for bringing these tunes into my life - theyll be with me for years and years to come.Much lovex

Not the Johnny Marr triumph I was expecting. I bought this album because Marr described it 'as good as anything I've done' at least according to Wikipedia. His guitar playing is as good as ever on the album with plenty of his signature style riffs an licks. However the album itself isn't worthy of the treatment he has given it and lacks a certain magic. The second half is much better than the first but there is little to keep you coming back for more.

J'aime beaucoup THE CRIBS, le groupe de WAKEFIELD des frères JARMAN. J'ai maintenant les six albums de ce groupe et je considère que, donc leur quatrième album IGNORE THE IGNORANT est celui qui me parait le moins intéressant tout en restant d'un niveau acceptable. Mais, ce n'est que mon avis.

このバンドはアルバムを三枚聴いたに留まってますが、やはりだんだん渋くなっていきます。このアルバムが勢いと思慮深さが相まってベストではないかと思います。

今はリアルタイムの音を追いかけられなくなってしまった自分が何で このバンドの音を聴いたのかというと 答えは簡単。このアルバムからジョニーマーが参加しているからです。確か ちょっと前には「Modest Mouse」に参加していたはずなのに既に他のバンドに手を出してしまう相変わらずのマイペースぶり。UKの若手バンドの音を聴いたの久しぶりでした。最初に聴いたときにはボーカルの荒っぽさや 前奏の短さに少し戸惑いましたが何回か聴くうちに耳に こびりついて離れなくなってしまいました。1-3曲目はマーが作曲にも強く関与している感じがして 4曲目以降は曲に後から被せているような感じがします。このバンドの音を聴いた後にオアシスやプラシーボなどの自分が持っている比較的に新しいUKバンドの音を多く聴いてしまいました。UKの独特な憂鬱さと 若者の元気の良さを壊さずにマーが遠くから見守っているような素晴らしいアルバムです

I am not sure what is going on in British music this last year. It seems like once a band puts out a great album their next one is overproduced and they aim for a more top 40 market. It happened to the Kooks big time and also to the Fratellis. The new Cribs is not that bad but after 3 great albums I am disappointed. I admit I had to listen to Mens Needs... a few times but then it really got a hold of me. This one has taken many listens and just does not have the rough punk edge that made the other ones great. Even the vocals are too smoothly produced.There are some very goods songs once you listen through the overproduction but what were they thinking with "City of Bugs"?! Even the suppposed UK single (I live in the US) "Cheat On Me" sounds like what happened when the Goo Goo Dolls went for top 40 sales. It is a middle of the road sound that does not do the band justice.If having Johnny join the band was to give them a different perspective on doing their songs, go back to a threesome and the garage where you sounded great.

The latest Cribs disk represents a departure from earlier efforts. The sound is more mature and a little bit "lighter" overall. I know that this will be unacceptable to many, but really, do you really want the band to continue to put out clones? An analogy to this disk is The Smiths' "The Queen is Dead". After three very successful efforts, The Smiths broke new ground with "The Queen is Dead", and in the end it became their best album. So I bet it will be with "Ignore the Ignorant" for The Cribs.The disk certainly does reflect Johnny Marr's input. (As an aside, give the bloke some credit: at his age to still be rocking out is pretty darn good.) Since all of the songs are listed as being written by all four band members it's impossible to know what songs had the most input from Johnny.My favorite tracks include "We Were Aborted" (a hard rocking great way to start things out), "Cheat On Me" (this one does sound like Johnny penned it), "Hari Kari", "Last Years Snow" (a beautiful ballad), and "Ignore the Ignorant" (the closest to songs from Men's Needs). "City of Bugs" is probably the weakest track here. If you liked "Be Safe" (which I deplore) you'll probably like "City of Bug".My only criticism is that the lyrics overall are not as smart as those on "Men's Needs Women's Needs. But this is one disk that will still sound great five years from now.

A total unheard band suddenly came into the existence of my music catalog was a never before experienced thing in my life. The fact that former The Smiths guitarist, Johnny Marr was participating in the writing, recording, and producing of this album nonetheless makes me want to listen to it no matter what. Since I'm not very familiar with the cribs at all. This album contains elements of punk, rockabilly, and contemporary indie style that fits the modern taste of music by the people. It is a solid album that's undergoing an emergence in popularity. Don't miss out!

I am not a Cribs fan,but they do sound rather interesting.With the inclusion of the great jingle jangle guitar ofJohnny Marr, the band might have more depth and star quality.Johnnie's list of session work and joining other bands isquite a resume. The Healer's, Modest Mouse, Pet Shop Boysand The The...come to mind. Therefore I have added the CribsCD to my Marr collection.I am sure many others will do the same.Modest Mouse did not work for me, but the Cribs brothers seem tobe having more fun. Enjoy!
