Great Sedona Hikes: Second Edition

I have purchased several books dedicated to Sedona hiking and this one is the best so far! You can't ask for more detailed descriptions and locations of over 50 trails in the area. From general hiking tips, to detailed locations of the trailheads, to specific features of each trail, to pictures and maps, it has it all. One of the most helpful sections is that of the authors' favorite hikes. There are SO many trails in the Sedona area you hardly know where to begin, but this guide helped us narrow down which trails were the best choices for us. Lots of maps, GPS coordinates, trailhead descriptions, difficulty levels, and more are included in this lightweight book you can tuck in your backpack (or a purse)! No colored pictures in this book, but the wealth of information makes up for it. This will be the first thing to go into the suitcase when we head out to Sedona in a few months!

Just returned from a week of hiking in Sedona and used this excellent guide as our bible. We would have been very much at a loss without it. The guide well describes what the forest roads are like (when the authors state that a FR is rough and requires a high clearance vehicle, believe them! We had one but others weren't so fortunate).And very well describes what you will find on the beautiful hikes, as well as difficulty level. We went on several of the hikes listed in the "favorites" section and had awesome views and a great time. Note too that, unless described as "easy" these are HIKES, not walks. Wear hiking boots - the trails are rocky and you need this type of protection - tennis shoes are not hiking boots. The authors list of items you should take is right on.This book is outstanding.

We bought this book prior to our visit to Sedona. We used it to select hikes based not only on what we wanted to see but our hiking ability. It was terrific. The hikes were well described and the directions to the trail head were clear. I was able to read about the hikes prior to our trip and suggest them to everyone when we got to town. They could then also read about them and a decision was much faster. We hiked the West Fork Trail, the Airport Loop and up to Devil's Bridge all vividly described in the book.

When I began reading the book, I thought that it had waaaaay to much detail, especially when trying to find where the trail started. Once I went to Sedona, however, I was VERY grateful to the level of detail of just finding the trailheads!!! It was also nice that they were categorized for wet weather and sunny hot weather. The book had very complete information regarding miles of hike, one way or round trip, easy moderate, difficult, etc! If you have never been to Sedona before, I highly recommend this book!

I have the Kindle edition, which makes it easy to take with me on my phone. Really good descriptions of most of the good hikes in the area.The only improvement I could suggest is making more suggestions about combining shorter hikes into longer ones. It can be done using the area map, but could be more intuitive.

This book was very helpful in planning several hikes and sunset viewings during our recent trip to Sedona. Info in book was accurate and informative. Boynton Canyon vista trail was awesome!

Perfect guide for hiking in the Sedona area. Thorough and easy to follow instructions for hiking on the areas most popular trails.

We went to Sedona in March and for the first half of our trip stayed north of Sedona. This book detailed some very nice hikes in the Canyon that I otherwise probably would have missed. The descriptions of the hikes are accurate and detailed. I would recommend this book when planning your trip to Sedona.

My family and I took our first trip to Sedona a few weeks ago. I found this book on-line and ordered it before we left. It was an amazing guide to great hikes in Sedona. Very well organized! Each hike is explained, rated by difficulty and has very clear directions on how to get there. Once you are at the trail it has detailed instructions of the trail itself. We used this everyday wewere in Sedona and had some amazing hikes. The book includes a "Favorite Hikes" section that we started with initially. We were always impressed with the clear description and directions. I highly recommend this book to anyone planning a trip to Sedona! In case you can't find it on-line, we noticed that local stores also had it for sale. New Frontiers Market in Sedona even has copies for sale. Happy Hiking!
