I got this as a gift for my son's birthday as he really wanted a pet but we wanted him to start with something more simple. He was excited to put it together and only needed a little assistance though there didn't seem to be enough sand for this kit. Perhaps it was just our technique but we tried for days to get ants to go into this ant farm and we couldn't catch any!

My son really wanted an ant farm for his birthday so we picked this one up. You do need to collect your own ants, which he actually enjoys. It has tweezers for placing food and ants and the layers do allow you to see them tunneling. Overall, it’s a pretty cool science project. We have only had it a few days now but he enjoys it.

The ant farm is not well built. The ants escaped all over our house. It was gross and I would not recommend this ant farm.

This ant farm had clear directions. We enjoyed the booklet about ants. It included lots of good information. However, we had trouble catching ants using the catchers. It could have been that we tried the wrong foods in the catchers. We tried muffins, honey, sugar water, and watermelon. Watermelon caught a few, but they didn’t transfer into the farm when we attached them to the unit. There was also not enough sand included in the kit; so we opted to add some dirt. In the end we dug up an ant hill at our local playground so that we could utilize this kit.

This is a fun design to view and explore these fascinating insects. These seem to be durable enough fit and hold a good amount of soil and bugs.

I purchased this ant farm for my young ones to observe how a colony sets up and grows. This kit comes with everything you need to establish an ant farm. The materials are sturdy and thick which will not break easily. This is a very interactive science lesson which will capture your children's attention as they learn. Amazing quality for the price.

If you have a critter/science obsessed kid, this will be a good set for you. It comes with everything you need, except the ants, to get a nice little ant observation farm up and going (and lets be real, ant's are not hard to come by). The entire kit is well thought out allowing your little scientists to really get the most out of it.
