DMC Tapestry Wool - The Tropical Collection - 12 Count - 8.7 Yards Skeins

DMC thread is the best. Quality is unmatched and it’s so soft. Colors are stunning and the thread doesn’t break. I may have a problem because I want all the colors!

Beautiful colors. Because it's the tried and true DMC thread, it works great for all projects.

Needlepointing a literal 50 year old piece that my mother had . I wanted to change some of the colors but could not find the proper yarn in any craft store. This was perfect although a bit pricey.

Using it for embroidery and it's perfect. Just kinda expensive for how much wool you get imo. Wish there was more.

Beautiful set of colors and a great deal for the price. I wish I had read more carefully that this was Tapestry (non-divisible) wool, not the DMC Eco Vita used for embroidery. I tried to embroider with it, and was able to do it, but clearly not the intended use. I have since purchased a needlepoint pattern with an even-weave Aida cloth to give it a try. The colors are so beautiful, I really hope it will be easier to stitch than the open-weave linen I originally tried. The left photo shows standard crewel embroidery wool, while the right shows this tapestry wool.

I used this for my first real attempt at Swedish Dala Floda type embroidery, which is traditionally done with wool thread instead of cotton. It’s not exactly the type that’s supposed to be used (I think it’s called tuna wool?), but it was great for this project. It’s 4 strands of thread twisted into a thicker yarn, and for the smaller details I used only one or two strands. It was easy to pull apart, I just carefully untwisted the yarn first and wound the unused threads onto a spool or bobbin for later use, which made it a good value for the cost. It’s soft and gives my project the texture I was looking for. The colors were great, as you can see. After I was finished I hand washed the piece in hot water to give it a more felted look, but it actually shrunk less than I had hoped for, so I may try putting it in boiling water. And then iron it, of course (that’s my least favorite part of sewing!)
