It says i5 but an amd quadcore? im confused

John:I remember back when I was researching the purchase of a Lenovo laptop (they are great machines) on Amazon that I too experienced some confusion. This is because of the way they display almost anything related to the search request. In your case, I believe you may have been looking at the specs for the Lenovo ThinkPad E455. As with the Lenovo ThinkPad E450 there are many configurations for the 450. Once you decide on the cpu (I5 vs. AMD A6) and model ThinkPad E450 or E455 carefully check the Lenovo created model # which in the case of the E450 is 20DC004CUS. This number is unique to the E450 with an Intel I5 chip. Also, this machine comes as a Windows 7 Pro pc out of the box. Yes, you can upgrade it for free to Windows 10 until next July 2016 if you wish. By the way, the I5 chip in this pc is not a true "Quad Core". It has two cores and each core has 2 processors for a total of 4 processors. What I can tell you is that it works very well. If you wish to upgrade the memory from 4 gigs to 8 gigs it takes less than 5 minutes to do this. Likewise, if you want to put in a SSD drive instead of the mechanical HD it's a snap to do. For both of these upgrades it's all of 3 screws on the bottom to remove to gain access to these two areas.

Can you watch dvds on it

Alice: The Thinkpad E450 does not have a built in DVD/cd drive. In this day and age (June 2016) most software is downloaded. If you have a need to install an older program on a DVD/CD in your possession, you will need to buy an external DVD/CD drive which is USB powered and runs about $15 - 30 in price. Alternatively, on a desktop PC you can copy the CD to the hard drive and then write it back to a USB thumb drive and then plug the USB thumb drive into the Lenovo and install the program. I actually bought this machine for a friend of mine and did some upgrading to it immediately. What I learned from the process is this. You can easily go from 4 gigs to 8 gigs of memory for less than $50 and 5 minutes of time and swap out the mechanical hard drive for a SSD drive (Intel 530 is my favorite) in 10 minutes. The clone process takes about 30 - 50 minutes. These 2 modifications result in what I call a "rocket ship"! The same 3 or 4 screws hold down the cover to both. The only drawback to this Lenovo is that the battery is internal and may be hard to replace later on if it proves necessary. I have a 4 year old Lenovo with an external battery and it still holds a 2 to 2.5 hour charge.
