Champion 2500-Watt Ultralight Portable Inverter Generator

Very happy with this generator. Used it for a home renovation where there was no power and it worked wonderfully. Easy to operate. Long lasting power with each tank of gas. Starts up easily. Lightweight. Relatively quiet.

This Champion generator has been amazing for our camper! It runs great and provides plenty of power for everything we need. I love the convenience of being able to use either gasoline or propane. I had three primary criteria when shopping for a 2XXXW generator: 1. Quiet operation 2. Dual fuel capability 3. Solid run time on one LP tank Those were my non-negotiables. After two full weeks of researching, I finally settled on the Champion , and I’m so glad I did. I ordered it on Amazon Sunday evening, and it arrived Wednesday afternoon. Fast shipping was a nice bonus, but the real wow moment came when I opened the box. The packing was genuinely impressive , everything was so well protected and thoughtfully arranged. All the accessories were right there, including the oil. No hunting around or missing parts. Setup was ridiculously easy. No tools needed. I removed a cover, added the supplied oil, put the cover back on, hooked up the propane tank, and it started on the third pull. I was honestly surprised by how smooth and light the pull was , nothing strenuous at all. But what really blew me away was the noise level. Even standing right next to it, I could comfortably take a phone call without raising my voice. That’s impressive. Another pleasant surprise was how manageable the weight is, especially with that wide, well-designed carry handle. It actually feels easy to move around. I tested all the outlets and power ports, then let it run unloaded for 8 hours. It was so quiet that I literally forgot it was running while I was inside the house! Registering for the warranty was just as straightforward , just basic info like name and address. Super simple. Overall, if you’re looking for a generator in this size range with dual fuel capability, I really don’t think you’ll find a better out-of-the-box experience. From opening the box to having it running took me about 15 minutes following the quick start guide. Champion absolutely nailed it.

so far this generator’s been really nice it’s quieter than most of the suitcase generators I’ve owned. I live off grid so I go through about one of these every year. I’m putting approximately 20,000+ hours on them and I live in California. We’re getting generators is harder and harder so I have to get them from out of state and bring them home two things I’ve noticed with this one even though it’s much quieter than the others. I do notice that there’s more exhaust smell than normal. I also keep these generators in a small doghouse type covering so I can keep them running during snow and rain. First problem I have was the carbon monoxide sensor kept shutting the generator off so I and rainwill have to figure out something else to do this winter with it that’s very annoying all the rest of our rain just fine in that box. Other than that I’ve had no problem so far and really like it. update. few months later so it’s now raining and starting to snow in my area with heavy winds. Has the wind swirl around and sometimes blow exhaust fumes backwards into the doghouse the generator shuts off. I have gone as far as to put an 8 inch duck fan blowing fresh air directly into the intake or front of the generator. This is helped unfortunately not a lot. My next step is to take this stupid generator apart to find the O2 sensor if it unplugged yay I’ll see if it starts and runs. If it doesn’t I’m going to put a cap on the end of the sensor and see if it runs. If neither solution works, it’s going in the trash. I’m done with this. I’m tired of it shutting off several times an hour because of this carbon monoxide safety sensor. This is the major issue with this generator. I wish it didn’t have it because otherwise it runs great works great again. The biggest downfall is carbon monoxide sensor Well, a few days later, I’ve done some research. Got a wiring diagram. Spent a day and a half disassembling the entire generator to find how where this carbon monoxide sensor is and how to defeat it. After disconnecting it, it has been running for two days with no shut offs finally so happy. So the procedure is very easy anyone can do this. Undo the too quick release knobs on the right side of the generator if it’s facing, you take this cover off. This is the same cover you would use to change the oil. There’s a grouping of wiring harness tapped up in the front corner with a tie wrap plastic wrap, cut that plastic tie wrap off gently pull out those wires look for a plug with two orange wires going in and coming out on each end of the plug disconnect this plug. This is the current power supply to the carbon monoxide sensor. It will no longer work. I have included videos with the generator running with his plug disconnected images of this plug and it disconnected also there is an image of the carbon monoxide sensor board and intake. I have not tried this, but I’m sure if he stuffed paper towel or plastic in that intake. It would defeat it too, but have not tried that so I can’t actually see if that works. So good luck with it so far I’ve had perfect results.

Update: I now have 55 hours on this generator and I am beyond impressed. I fabricated a generator mount for the front of my trailer, (See Picture), so I can run the generator while we are going down the road. (Keeps the inside of the trailer nice and cool)- and, yes, I have straps to hold it down when traveling (not shown in photo) I took it on a 3 day dry camping family vacation when the weather was very hot in August. Our Winnebago Voyage travel trailer has 2) 15,000 BTU Dometic rooftop AC’s and we had to have one of them on at all times. The Champion had no problem running one Air Conditioner at a time along with lights, and our large 12-volt RV fridge. It could not run the AC and the microwave oven at the same time. I really like the overload feature: if the generator goes into overload, it keeps running and a red light comes on the control panel, all you have to do to reset it is press the red button and it will start generating again (easy!) I have no concerns about running it all night under load until it runs out of gas, it does not damage the generator and it starts right back up after refilling. I disabled the CO detector (Thanks YouTube!!!!) it was easy and the generator has no issues with a hyperactive CO detector. On our trip running 24/7, It went through about 5 gallons every 24 hours, (the AC’s ran all day and most of the night) It didn’t burn any oil, started easily and was very quiet. I am more impressed with the quality of this generator every time I use it. So far no negatives, this is a quality generator especially for the price. Here is my original review: I have run it through its paces and it came out with flying colors! What I love about this generator: 1. It came really well packaged - no damage 2. It came with oil and a funnel 3. The door to check/add the oil has quarter-turn fasteners (no tools required) 4. Starts easy…I mean really easy ! 5. It is very quiet 6. Very light weight (47 pounds) 7. Very powerful - 4000 watts What I don’t like: 1. So far..nothing…. I did a 7 hour break-in and ran my 27 ft travel trailer with it. It started the 15,000 BTU Air conditioner with no problems. I ran the AC for 7 hours on one tank of fuel (the blower ran all 7 hours..the AC compressor ran for two hours) After the break-in period, the oil was pretty dark (not black, just grey) I changed the oil and put in Full Synthetic 10-30 oil. The oil change is easy if you buy one of those oil change suction devices. The controls are easy to understand, it seems like a very quality generator. I expect it to last many, many years.

This is an excellent value generator. I've bought lots of generators and this is my favorite. Small and light but lots of power and the 30 amp RV plug makes it a top choice. Highly recommend!

I currently own a pair of Champion 2500W dual fuel inverter generators, along with a 50 amp parallel kit. When I saw that Champion came out with a 4000W dual fuel inverter model at a very reasonable price, I decided that having a 3rd one around the house wouldn't be a bad idea due to periodic power failures in the area. I had read some reviews indicating that they had issues running this 4000W model on propane, but thought to myself that they must not be following the directions in the owners manual. Well... I followed the instructions to the letter, and no matter how hard I tried I could not get it to run off of a brand new (and full) 20 pound propane tank. I gave up after about 45 minutes and filled the gas tank with fresh gasoline. I put the dial on the "choke" setting, and after 1 pull it started right up and I moved the dial to the "gasoline" setting. I ran the generator on gasoline for about 90 minutes to break it in, and then began applying small loads. It worked perfectly. The next day, I tried the propane again, and now it's working perfectly on propane. I don't understand why it needed to be broken in on gasoline first, but I drained the gas tank and will mostly run this generator off of propane. The biggest differences between my new 4000W dual fuel model and my pair of 2500W dual fuels are: (1) the weight (the 4000W model is 52 pounds as opposed to 39 pounds for the 2500W model - at 70 years old this 13 pound difference is noticeable), and (2) the noise level (64dBA from 23 feet with 25% load, as opposed to 53 dBA from 23 feet with 25% load) - this is a fairly significant difference, and my research indicates that the 4000W model could reach 70dBA at full load. All of this being said, I think that the new 4000W dual fuel model is decent, especially since it is RV ready. It has both a 30 amp RV plug, as well as a 20 amp receptacle. Until there's a power outage at home, I take to the storage lot where my motorhome is so that I can power it up and run one of the air conditioners while I'm working on it. The price I paid ($699) is not too bad, especially since I paid $630 for EACH of my 2500W dual fuel Champions back in 2022.
