Wonderful, thought-provoking
I'm eagerly awaiting the 2011 edition of "Recovery: An Alien Concept?". This '04 update was excellent, full of insights & new ways of looking at old problems. Ron Coleman provides an insider's look at real recovery from "chronic schizophrenia", then turns his attention to psychiatric treatment as we know it. Far from being a hopeless, neurological disease, 'psychosis' may be a uniquely human means of coping with trauma or overwhelming emotion. 'Symptoms' may pave the way toward wellness. The helping professions may be in as much need of recovery from delusional theories & pessimism as anyone else. Along the way, Ron tells the engaging & moving story of his own recovery. As a psychologist, I found Ron's outlook to be challenging, very insightful, & an essential addition to our body of knowledge about what we call psychosis. I am grateful for his willingness to share his life experience, as well as his insights.
