For the 10" size, how long is the snout alone? That is, if theres a hole on a wall, how far inside can i reach?

About 9 inches. Different makers measure their products differently. Mine are 12 inches overall and the alligator is a full 10 inches. If you make the hole in the wall larger you can stick your hand, arm, face, and neck in there

how wide do the jaws open?

Not very wide. Maybe 6mm or 1/4 inch.

Not very sturdy

When I first bought these seem to be nice quality and they were much longer longer than the ones I had before. However they only lasted a week. I have been using them for oesd embroidered lace and they did not hold up and theybcane apart at and the seam and are no longer usable.
