Does the trick without having to turn down offers from a pawn shop or jewelry store
I found what I thought was a diamond laying on the ground in the parking lot at a local Walmart. It captured the light just right, so even though it was tiny, I was still able to see it. It cut glass, but lab created diamonds can also cut glass. I was going to take it to one of our local jewelers to look at it and see if it was real, however I knew they could probably get over on me, so I just bought this for myself. It's good to have, especially when buying 2nd hand jewelry that people claim are real - this is a good tool to carry so you can verify before getting scammed. I tried it on one of the rings in my bridal set, it identified it was a genuine diamond (listed as this as well), and I tried another ring, swarovsky crystal, it didn't light up. I tried the "diamond" I found in the parking lot and it was a very low reading on the meter, meaning it was not a genuine diamond. Broke my heart but I'm glad I was able to check and get an answer! I recommend this tool, especially if you're interested in gems and such.

Just buy it, it works. It doesn’t come with the battery so you’ll have to buy one. It’s good to have.

It works but NO INSTRUCTIONS!
I had to Google AND YouTube for instructions for this diamond tester. I could not figure out how to calibrate it and there was nothing in the box but the item. It should come with directions. It’s frustrating.

Remove the Cap & Buy a 9v Battery
Once I came back here to read all the info on it it worked great. There’s nothing included that tells you to remove the black cap to expose the needle.I’ve only used it on very small diamonds on a ring I’m currently wearing. I bought this so I can find my real diamond stud earrings among all the fakes I’ve bought. Oy!The reviews stating that it doesn’t work haven’t done their homework. It works fine.

Very nice! Easy to use
Comes in a nice case with clear instructions. Works very well and seems to be extremely accurate. Great for a brand new diamond or gemstone tester, such as myself.

I see these used on social media all the time. I had no idea the needle had a cap over it. It wasn’t very clear in the instructions. It works really well.
