Very enjoyable live recording

One of Conor Oberst's best albums. The songs are great but even better live. Wish I'd been there to see the gigs. True Blue is great.

Having released two albums at the same time earlier this year, Bright Eyes returns with some live recordings of his sold out tour which consisted of 150 shows! The tour, as it states in the sleeve notes, was to promote the more folk inspired of the two albums released earlier this year, "Im wide awake its Morning" so therefore its no surprise that most of the best songs from that album appear on "Motion Sickness" in their live form. All the songs are performed very ably and Conor Oberst's voice still retains the endearing hesitance in the live arena that it does on record. Renditions of songs such as "Train Under Water", "We are nowhere and its now" and older songs such as "method acting" are all brilliant but one cant help but be dissappointed by the omission of such great songs such as "The First Day of my Life". Another slight detraction is that because Emmylou Harris is so brilliant in complementing Oberst's voice on "im wide awake, its morning", one wishes that she was there at the live shows to add her magic. However, overall this is a very good live album and well worth getting whether you are already equainted with the genuis that is Conor Oberst, or even if you are just curious to see what all the fuss is about. Either way, you wont be dissappointed.

The tracks on this disc are primarily from I'm Wide Awake It's Morning, but there are some rarer gems as well. The rendition of True Blue from the Lua CD Single is pretty great as it is a fun lighthearted song in general. The rendition of Southern State from Home Vol. 4 (Bright Eyes/ Brit Daniels) is one of my favorite songs of all time. The version on this CD is so heartfelt, emotional, and nostalgic (I was born and raised from Athens, GA). It is better than the original. If you are new to Bright Eyes/ Oberst, buy something else first, but do not forego this album! -B

This is a great live cd. It has some really good bright eyes on it and a few that are not on any other albums.

I generally prefer the versions of songs that I hear first, whether I hear live versions or studio versions first. This is a good listen as there is plenty of good material on it, and I think Bright Eyes plays well on these songs live. The only reason I'm probably not giving it a 5-star review is because I more often go to one of the studio albums I've known longer rather than listening to this. If this were the only Bright Eyes album I had, I would probably listen to it constantly.

if you've seen conor oberst whether with bright eyes or of his solo c.d. and just love his drunkeness.. you will love his voice in this album. It lacked "Lover I don't I have to Love" and Haleigh but other than that I just love hearing his voice.
