One of TWO MGNTATA Children's Books
Of the two versions of this book, this is the better one, in my opinion. The other one doesn't follow the lyrics as closely as this one. Your mileage may vary. I prefer both the text and illustrations of this version. Both, of course, are suitable for kids. The song itself has been polarizing in DylanWorld(tm), but if you love this song, and you have little kids who like pictures of animals, this is a great rendering as a kids book. I like it better because on the refrain, it more closely follows the original lyrics. The other just leaves out the repetition, but this one you could sing along to with the original recording while you read it. Like I said, YMMV. For me, this is the best version, both visually and textually.

Beautiful...JUST beautiful!
I checked this book out at the library, along with the cd. It was such a hit with my 3-year-old that I HAD to buy it! The pictures are beautiful and there is a guide of all the animals in the back of the book. The cover is gorgeous (mine had a tiger on it!) The song that goes with it is just wonderful and super catchy in a nonannoying way. If you have toddlers you know what they can like... It is a really beautiful book and gorgeous song. It is not religious, but can be religious because man gave names to all the animals in the beginning, long time ago. If you don't buy it with the CD included, I highly recommend looking it up on youtube. It really is a beautiful book with a beautiful song. The author illustrated the book because he fell in love with the song, just as we have. I can't praise this highly enough.

Catchy
Sent to a family with 2 children, aged 2-3/4 years and 6 years. Both children spontaneously learned the lyrics and could quickly sing them from memory. The song and book are charming allusions to Genesis 1, the Creator God, 6 literal days of creation, all in a child-friendly manner.

strictly for Bob Dylan fans.
Bob Dylan's song `Man Gave Names to All the Animals' from his album `Slow Train Running' is the text in this illustrated book for children. The drawings by Jim Arnosky are colorful and eye catching sure to interest very young non-readers. Unfortunately Arnosky's presentations have creatures from different biomes appearing in the same pictures. Granted this is not a biology book but children w/b presented with a variety of misleading information in their young lives, why not at minimum present something factual? Also, the lyrics to the song are written phonetically. When Dylan pronounces `I' as `Ah', the printed text reflects the pronunciation. Again, why have misleading information in a children's book? Also, at the end of the book there is a listing by name of the animals that appear in the book but no cross-reference to help readers put names w/pictures. (There was one animal drawing I could not identify). One positive aspect of this volume is that the book does contain a cd of Dylan singing the original song so new readers can follow the text while listening to the words. Nice method for word recognition.Dylan fans will likely pick this item up, read it once, then consign it to their `Dylan shelf'. Strictly for Bob Dylan fans.*This review refers to the 2010 edition.*

Fun for All
A fun book for kids and children at heart with lavish illustrations. Dylanβs song by the same name goes page by page with the book. (May have to acquire the song separately, as it doesnβt come with the paperback.) A great present for the grandkids.

Bob Dylan for the Generations...at his best!
I purchased this book for my young grandson who loves books and is fascinated by illustrations that he can talk a lot about, and add his own stories to. This is a fabulous book from beginning to end...beautifully done, interesting, and it comes with a CD of Bob Dylan singing his song. So, now we not only read it, but sing it, and even make up our own tune for it. I've thought about getting a copy for myself!

No cd
Very disappointed as my book did not have a CD. I read reviews and they stated it did have a cd. Is it possible to order the cd without the book since I have the book now? A music teacher I work with had both and the preschoolers love the music. Just realized reviews with cd are for hardcover editions which are no longer available.

For sharing
Great book, bought as a 64th birthday present for my husband,(didn't know what else to give) but as a life long Dylan fan, he was thrilled. Really detailed vivid illustrations of animals, very much looking forward to sharing this with our grand children.Good way of introducing the music and the words to children and makes a lovely keepsake. Based on the Bob Dylan song.
Great illustration and the song set to the story is great for young and old.

This is the Chinese edition with English text for the song.
Good book but the Chinese do not seem to have an ideograph for Pig or Sheep so in the illustration a boar and mountain goat have been substituted. A bit confusing for non Chinese children.
