Over the years we have had issues with holes in clothes made out of natural materials which we have assumed was caused by moths. We managed the situation using deterrents such as cedar blocks, cleaning out cupboards and washing affected clothes which has kept things under control. I ordered these old fashioned mothballs to use if we ever have problems again. The mothballs are small round balls of white crystalline material that looks similar to that used by my parents years ago and which I have not seen recently. I was rather hoping these would not have the memorable smell but unfortunately they do.My plan when I ordered them was to spread them around the cupboards we had experienced the problem in but I will not be doing that because of the smell and safety advice I have received since ordering. It seems the correct way to use the mothballs is not to deter infestation but to treat it by putting affected clothes into a closed container with the mothballs for a number of days. This will kill the infestation. Once the article of clothing is removed from exposure to the mothballs and washed the smell will eventually go.

Effective for my purposes, strong scent and great for the price, I put the balls in a small bag to areas around my house, especially like the smell when I walk into my closet, it remained my granny’s closets lol
