This is the best look at this war that I have read yet. I wrote my MA thesis on this at Michigan. It would have been much better if I hah had some of these insights

Livre très intéressant sur un épisode peu connu, d'après des sources originales en chinois. Un peu répétitif parfois. L'auteur fait le tour de son sujet, c'est exhaustif, et parfois certains aspects sont un peu trop creusés

Forse l'unico libro disponibile sulla materia realmente approfondito e solido di fonti.Letteralmente tutto quello che c'è da sapere dal lato cinese sulle strategie militari e pensiero politico strategico dietro l'aggressione cinese al Vietnam del '79 e seguenti scontri di confine fino al '89.

I purchased the Kindle version of the book and loved it. I finished the book in 3 days. There are not too many English language works on the topic and even fever works by Chinese scholars. I believe this book is only 1 of 2 written by a Chinese author. This author clearly has Chinese language skills and clearly tapped into Chinese language sources for his research. Sadly both official Vietnamese and Chinese government records are unavailable, but this author as tried to corroborate some facts from official unit history of PAVN. The Sino Vietnamese war was a very complex affair many people are unaware of the background. This author does a very good job of putting all the issues together and trying to assess it.

Ignoravo totalmente il conflitto Sino-Vietnamese, scoppiato nel 1979 e durato ben 13 anni, fino al 1992. E dire che non ero un bambino all'epoca, eppure niente, zero assoluto, il Vietnam poteva solo essere in guerra con l'America.Il libro contiene un'analisi importantissima di strategia geo politica, e aggiunge un tassello molto importante per comprendere il crollo del comunismo sovietico, quindi è un libro fondamentale.Fornisce anche un'analisi molto lucida della tattica militare e della propaganda cinese legata alla guerra di 'invasione difensiva' nei confronti di un paese fratello, da un punto di vista politico e etnico.Le stelle sono poche per suggerire all'autore una riedizione meno ripetitiva. Le considerazioni salienti il lettore non ha bisogno di ritrovarle in ogni capitolo, soprattutto quando ogni capitolo termina già con un riassunto.
