What's the difference between the 108 and the 108A????

The 108 was made to go with the 15,000 mile Mobil 1 Extended oil. The 108A was made to go with the introduction of the ANNUAL Mobil 1 oil. They are identical in size, threads etc. I was using the 108 before, the ordered the 108A, at the same or lower price from Amazon. Fit my '14 Mazda CX-5 with 98K miles just fine a few months ago. Maybe the insides are a bit different but I don't know.

Does this come with a crush ring?

Crush ring is found on drain plug sometimes. Rubber O-ring is included on this filter.

Is this a better filter then the less expensive oem genuine mazda oil filter?

When you buy OEM at dealer they are more expensive. I use Mobil 1, K&N and Fram synthetic filters and they are excellent filters.

Would this fit a 2012 Mazda CX5?

I don't know , but it fits my 2.5L 4cyl nissan
