Sacred Tree: Reflections on Native American Spirituality

I've been doing a weekly medicine wheel with Medicine Cards for over 10 years, but the recent addition of this little book has brought a powerful understanding of the medicine wheel that was previously lacking in my spiritual practice. It's not very long but the teachings FAR outweigh the page count. I've highlighted it so much that the pages are wrinkly.After 57 years of marriage, my father passed away a few months ago and my mother's grief has been tremendous. I've introduced her to the Medicine Cards and The Sacred Tree teachings. WOW, talk about a powerful set of tools to help her cope with the loss and find a new outlook on life. She was previously borderline suicidal without Dad and now, I can literally see the peacefulness on her face that the Native American spiritual practice and teachings of the medicine wheel are bringing to her, slowly but surely. This in itself is worth more than anything else in the world to me.No matter what your background, I strongly recommend you check out this book. If nothing else, it's an incredibly wise blueprint for living a full, productive, compassionate and peaceful way of life.

There are many books on spirituality, most are much longer and difficult to understand. This one is written from the spirit and speaks to the spirit. The explanation of the Sacred Tree and the Medicine Wheel are so simple that even I can understand them. Each time you travel the Medicine Wheel you gain more experience and each time you read this book you will get even more from these words. Whether you are on the Red Road or another path to spirituality the book has a key.

A great beginners book on learning about some Native American basic philosophy/spirituality and the medicine wheel...I ordered two more to use as loaners to my clients who are interested in alternative manner of looking at life and spirituality, as well as their own Native American beliefs. A book well worth the read, study, and time.

I would recommend this book to anyone that chooses to seek a greater understanding into the self. I would not necessarily consider this a Native only understanding since the symbolism and understanding utilized within it has been available to all people at one time or another. It is simply written with the basic understandings into the process of the recovery of our humanity from the perspectives of First Nation People. A process, I may add, that invites one to transform one's perspectives to live a more balanced, healthier and happier life. Great Book!!

it was what I expected

Let's face it. Some books on Native American Spirituality are hard to understand, or are *gasp* boring.This related some very basic, but fundamental information in a way that I believe most would appreciate it.Nicely worded and illustrated as well. I think it would be beneficial for any class or those who are trying toimprove their basic understanding of unifying Native American spiritual belief to use this book as a realsource. Really great for pagans/transcendentalists to supplement their understanding too.

This book aces life in perspective..it teaches us to honor all of life and to live a better life in natural harmony with our beautiful planet and beyond..Highly recommend as essential reading.Thank you

I understood this book - it struck the right level for me. I recommend it.

This is a wonderful book. It is a very short read, is easy to understand and would be suitable for adults and children... Each person would get some different wisdom from it. The book discusses the medicine wheel which represents the path we are on through our life through the 4 directions. It reminds me of astrology in some ways, and the wheel of Dhamma in Buddhist tradition. There are great examples of lessons in morality and behaviour. It could be very helpful for teachers of elementary school children to share this book with them. This book is not only very informative, it is deeply heartwarming. It describes a beautiful way of perceiving the world. The Indigenous peoples have so much wisdom to share. In fact, I would say all of North American society desperately needs to learn this wisdom.
