A straight forward, honest account of the trails associated with living with bipolar disorder.
I'm sure author Liz Schuch and her family and friends would have benefited from a book like this one back in 1984! I believe Liz's accounts of all she has endured, in which she shares the true fear as well as the humor of her episodes, will give hope to others who suffer from this mind altering disorder. The courage with which she shares her story is commendable. I loved reading this book and it gave me further insight into the often ignored subject of mental health. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to see bipolar disorder from the inside, up close and personal, from a woman who has managed to live a beautiful life touched by, but not dictated by, bipolar disorder.

A non sensationalist memoire about life with bipolar disorder. Funny- light hearted and helpful. A rarity in memoires!
Just like its cover, More than Bipolar is a straightforward account of how a woman successfully manages bipolar I. I absolutely loved the beginning story of her first manic hospitalization. You have to read it for a good laugh!

Boring and a lot of fluff
Not very engaging. Amateur writing style. The first half describes her privileged life and experience getting help help with her diagnosis. The second half is about resources. I give it 2 stars because she wrote a book, which in itself is an accomplishment regardless of how bad it is. I stopped reading 1/3 of the way through.

An incredibly open and honest personal account
I was struck throughout this memoir by the courage that it took for Liz Schuch to write her very open and honest account of dealing with this disorder. She doesn't hold back on what the ordeal was like for her family, friends and most of all for herself. Her book will be incredibly helpful for anyone dealing with bipolar disorder, whether personally or as a family member or friend. The book strikes a perfect balance throughout and I cannot recommend it highly enough. Liz has quite a story to tell and she does it well. Bravo, Liz! Jane
