This is right out of Luther's Small Catechism, but with illustrations and examples
If you went to Lutheran grade school and learned all Luther's explanations of the Ten Commandments and the Creeds, etc., and want to pass the same wording onto your children or grandchildren, these are the books for you! In addition to the text from Luther, they have illustrations and sometimes some easier phrasing, such as, for the 4th commandment, an adult saying, "It's time to clean your room!" and a child saying, "Okay, Mom!" The books are much more engaging than just getting Luther's catechism out and working from that.At the same time, these are definitely for the kind of person who wants to teach the direct translation of Luther's explanations from the catechism to their kids, so some parents, even Lutheran parents, might find the language overly formal or even somewhat different than they way they would explain baptism or the commandments to a child today. I'm glad I bought this because it's a nice supplement to other things we are doing, especially since my own kids don't have the option to go to a Lutheran grade school, etc., and the price here on Amazon for the whole set is quite good for a box set of small paperbacks.

wonderful way to explain the Christian faith
This won't work for those who don't believe in the real presence of Jesus in communion, but it covers so much and I am hoping my niece will learn so she can have a living relationship with Christ to be with her through life.

Great product, would order again as a gift.
This is a great set. I love that it comes in a box and you can personalize it. One thing: the box has a coating that does make it stronger and protect it, but it is difficult to write on, so keep that in mind when you write the child’s name on it. The writing is scriptural and doctrinally sound, and our three year old loves to read these books.

Great multi-age introduction to the Catechism
I got this as a baptism gift for my nephew. These books cover the Lutheran Sacraments and other elements of the Catechism: The Lord's Prayer, Ten Commandments, and Confession. The text of the Catechism is included, as well as two narratives that are more easily understood by younger and older children. At first I thought it was pretty much developmentally inappropriate for any age, but then I realized (stupid me!) that a person could read any part of the books (the original text, the narrative, or the dialogue) depending on what age the child is.All in all, I think it's a great introduction to the Catechism.

Refreshing, well-done book for all children!
Joni Walker does a fantastic job of lovingly discussing many aspects of the Christian faith through this six book set. Joni goes into detail using words that children can understand and it is done simply, yet is very accurate and the words are well thought out. The books read so smoothly and definitely cover what I would like to say as a parent, but cannot myself always articulate.Joni Walker is also a great artist and my children have enjoyed her wonderful illustrations throughout the entire set. We have definitely ejoyed these books. ~ Thanks Joni -well done!

Great gifts for families with young children.
Beautifully packaged for home and family use, this boxed set introduces young children and their families to basic components of the Christian faith. Simple illustrations help children understand the important Biblical and theological ideas. Reading these books with your children wll be an excellent way of starting them on their faith journey and helping them answer important questions about religious beliefs and practices.
