CHEAPER can be BETTER ! Updated to 2nd purchase...
HURRY UP AND BUY ! For the price it's a great deal. I researched for HOURS X MANY late nights to find the best possible deal. I found one that was about 10.00 more because I liked the reviews and then I found this one that was much cheaper. I figured it would b a cheap back up and I was curious considering the price difference if it would hold up to the more pricier one. The difference: The more expensive one was bit bigger and cage seemed a bit sturdier. The trigger mechanism was almost too touchy and would deploy b4 I could finish bating it. Because u have to put the bait at the far end of cage away from the door (where the trigger plate is) u practically have to hold ur breathe while slowly, steadily reaching in the cage to bait it and then back out without touching any part of the cage. Gets REALLY frustrating after the 3rd try. Then as ur pulling ur arm out of the cage, Slow n steady u have to use ur other hand to hold the 2 trigger arms on the outside and other side of cage together until you're arm is completely out of cage. Like a game of operation. Those arms are really sensitive too. I had to file those 2 arms down to adjust the sensitivity. It WILL deploy with a TINY tap and the landscaper even set it off with a leaf blower from about a 20ft away. **Now back to THIS item. The cage is a bit more light weight gauge BUT with any cage/trap u HAVE to check it every day otherwise any rodent will chew right thru them (escape or defeat) and that's where most ppl screw up and them blame it on the manufacturing. This has a better trap mechanism which is much easier to set and once deployed it seemed to reinforce the door keeping the door closed and locked down. I didn't need the patience to set this trap compared to the more expensive one. I would definitely recommend that u buy this one as its about 1/2 the price or 2fer 1 deal, right? The set up is better, easier and cheaper. It definitely does the job and that's all u really need. Save some money and hit the buy now button. I already did the research for you. Ther longer you wait... well u know. The more you have to set traps over and over again. Updated 1.10.19- This trap is totally worth it. Like I said earlier... U MUST check them periodically. I set in the evening and check in the morning. So far every time I have the put it out I have a cute but "property destroyer" sitting in the cage bright and early n the am its like clockwork. This is the BEST one by far, out of 4 different traps that I purchased. I really like that they are "LIVE CATCH" so that I do not need to worry about harming the cute critter (squirrels) but that I can release it FAR FAR AWAY. The ONLY ISSUE is that they use a thin gauge wire for the caging, making it easier to chew thru. I can't say it enough...check the cage frequently. Besides that small guage a critter FINALLY was able to chew a hole through it. HOWEVER... i am buying another today hence my updated review. Changing review to 5* . My average with this cage n the last 6 months 10/10 and counting. All catch & release. Very pleased considering 1 acre and full of wildlife. Can't bare the thought of putting them out but sending them on a vacation far far away, I can do that easily... now just need a better means of transporting them.

Great trap!
Cats brought a chipmunk into house and it got away. Tried a squirrel mesh trap. It trapped chipmunk but while watching it scramble around in cage, saw it escape through 1" square holes in trap. Wouldn't have believed it if hadn't personally observed. Bought this much smaller trap and it worked great. Took pesky rodent outside and released. Very nice trap. One recommended improvement would be a flip up handle. You currently carry trap by the end loop. But animal racing around inside makes holding it unstable. Otherwise, super product. Would highly recommend. I also gave our 2 cats a stern talking to, about bringing animals into house, so confident of no repeat of this problem.

Simple, easy, and effective
This trap is very easy to setup. It effectively traps wood rats, and release is simple and safe. We have had a stream of wood rats entering our boiler room. Hopefully, we have eliminated all the holes, but time will tell. Meanwhile, we have trapped one rat per day for several weeks. We drive 10 miles to a trailhead for release. We removed the trap from the boiler room with the last trapped rat, and left the trap on a stone wall while we left for a 4 mile hike. The trap effectively contained and protected the rat. It drove my cats crazy because they could see the rat through the glass door. This trap is the best approach for wood rats. I use a smaller version for mice. The other useful feature is the door can be flipped open, and a dead rat dropped inside for removal. This is very convenient when a cat discovers and kills rodents that have not entered the trap.

Do not dump your pets, people, no matter how small or exotic!
For a week or so, my roommates and I heard about a fancy rat loose in our complex. Then we spotted him ourselves. There's no way to know how long he'd been outside, but he wouldn't let us get within five feet. To our complex, a rat was a rat, and it didn't matter that he was an abandoned pet; they began laying poisoned-bait traps. My roommates and I immediately jumped into action, ordering this product and filling it with more enticing food to keep him appeased, stationary, and uninterested in the poisoned traps. After a week of catching nothing, and forty-eight hours of no sightings, we feared he'd fallen victim to a predator or one of the other countless urban dangers a rat faces. Then we heard the metallic rasp of the closing trap, and lo and behold, there he was. With this no-kill trap and some watermelon and angel hair pasta, we were able to successfully capture this little guy. It's been a couple weeks now, and we've named him Sinbad (Full name: Sinbad Cornelius Ratmen). We are temporarily fostering him until a proper home opens up in the rat rescue network we have in our state. He is around 3-4 months old and is disease and ailment free. Sinbad was very frightened the first few days after his capture, but has since fallen back into his bred-in dependency on people. He still has his little traumatisms--his moments of fear and survivalist wariness--but has never once lashed out and bit. He is sweet, gentle, and patient--a total angel. Sin-Sin has been making remarkable strides down his speedy path to a permanent home. I reiterate: DO NOT DUMP YOUR PETS, PEOPLE! It doesn't matter how exotic they are. No, they will not regress to their "natural state". That means nothing. They have been bred and conditioned to depend on people! That is their natural state! They do not possess the same physical and mental capabilities as their wild parallels. Sinbad, as you can glean from the photos, stands out like a sore thumb; a bright dinner-time beacon for a hawk or coyote to spot. I gave this product a 4-star overall rating, because I wish there was some sort of cushion on the end of the shutting door. The fast-closing door clipped the end of his tail, making a small laceration. It's since healed with no lasting damage, but I'm sure it hurt like hell and scared him worse. I feel that such a contraption ought to ensure the animal's safety by either dulling or cushioning the edges, lest it becomes a guillotine for the tail of any animal either slightly too large or not fully inside. 5 stars for easy to use 5 for being scentless (A good thing for a product designed for capturing cautious animals.) 3 for easy to clean (There is no way I'm getting all the mashed watermelon and spaghetti bits out of the nooks and crannies.) But these are very minor critiques, if that. Without this product and its swift delivery, we likely would've never caught him. Sinbad unbeknownst owes his life to this product, and us, our gratitude. Thank you. Again, do not dump your animals, people. Or better yet, don't get an animal you're not 100% prepared to take care of in the first place.

PICK THE RIGHT SIZE
I can give this five stars easily, I'm having a mouse infestation problem. I really don't like killing them. I guess I'm getting soft as I get older. I bought a different trap from a well-known company and they were so hard to set and they're being returned. So I ordered this one and the nice thing was that you actually get two pack for less than the other brand. As soon as I pulled this out of the box I didn't need any directions to figure out how to set it. It was so easy to set and the SIZE MADE FOR MICE works. Sitting in my recliner reading and all of a sudden I heard a little thunk. And then I began to hear the noises of a unhappy Mouse as it was trying to figure a way out. It was easy to open and let it out. I noticed that some people included photos of mice with their heads stuck. I thought I wonder if this product has more than one size. Clearly some people were purchasing a trap that was designed for a squirrel sized animal or a rat. I could see in the photos people put on here that some of the mice were able to get their heads through the wire holes. Sure enough I noticed that they had a larger size and as I looked at it I could tell that the holes were larger. So when you purchase this you want the smallest size they have IF you're looking to catch JUST mice. There's no way that they can get their head through the little holes IF you choose the correct size. The Trap is well made for what its purpose is and lightweight easy to pick up and best of all non- chewable. I had bought some other humane mouse traps that were made of plastic and they proceeded to chew and damage those to the point that they didn't work. Not happening with this product. This is the easiest thing to set. AND IF on the other hand you are buying one to catch rats, squirrels or Chipmunks and , you purchase the smallest size to save money you're going to end up LOSING money because you're going to have a damaged trap.

Good trap
Works like a charm! I use this in my chicken run, and it helps to keep down rat and mice populations. I use several, placed at intervals around the run. The trap is easy to set up and easy to clear out. They have been long-lasting, too. The first trap I bought is still in use - about 8 years old now.

Rats
Seems like a good idea as I did not want to kill any animal. The only animal that seems interested are the chipmunks, they are so light that they eat the food, peanut butter and cheese, and just leave. No rats yet, I will try again tonight.

Works even on smart rats. Not good if its a squirrel.
I bought it to get some Chipmunks but came home to a Norway rat. I had no idea there were rats in the neighborhood. Apparently they can chew through a lot of things but he did not chew his way out so I know it is well made. The way that it locks shut is well done because rats are also very smart and he did not escape. While I think the mechanism to drop the door could be a little bit more sensitive, it is effective. I highly recommend for small rodents maybe up to a squirrel. Much better price point than the brand name and does a great job. Highly recommend and great value. Very easy to set and I will be buying more. 20-day check-in: I have now caught my second victim which was not a chipmunk that I intended or the surprise of another rat. This time it was a squirrel and he mangled the bar which makes the Trap unusable unless I can bend it back into shape or make shift something else... they probably should have used something stronger or positioned it differently. 😞

Safe, for the animal and your peace of mind
I Love the fact that the small animal can be trapped safely and relocated. The conventional rat and mice traps are absolutely barbaric - the poor little critters just wanna live!

Sorprendente
Fue realmente sorprendente ver cómo en 3 horas ya había capturado al roedor. Solo seguí la recomendación de otro comprador de amarrar cacahuates al fondo de la jaula, y si, en tres horas cumplió su función

Effective!
Good human trap for it's price. Place a heavy object on cage ( in a way that does not stop it operating) as our first Asian house mouse managed to get out after the trap being triggered. The dog may have had some role in that but I am uncertain.
