Worked right out of the box. Simply opened the battery cover using a coin and pulled the plastic tab to activate it.To use, I wrapped the RPM sensor lead a few times around the outside rubber of the spark plug wire on my lawn mower, and then started up the mower. RPM displayed correctly. This was on a Honda HRX217.There are setup menu's on the RPM meter to adjust for various engine types (2-stroke, 4-stroke, etc...). For a standard 4-stroke lawn mower, it worked right out of the box.

A simple and affordable tachometer that you simply wrap the included wire around any spark plug wire at least _eight_ times, it comes on and counts the RPM's, samples a little slowly but works fine .Works best when you wrap the sensor wire several times then pinch the end of it next to the leading down bit of wire, I use a wooden clothes pin .NO ON/OFF FUNCTION .Uses inexpensive small disc batteries sold everywhere .-Nate

Bought, installed, and set the tach for a 4-stroke twin cyl. Outboard motor. It worked great at keeping a running total on engine hours, and was fairly accurate at engine rpm’s. I placed unit so when motor is tipped up for storage position, the unit would be sheltered from getting wet. Used motor again on 8-1-23 and found the tach-meter was FULL of water! Screen had a little bubble of air in it, it was so full of water. Beware of buying this unless you can seal it completely from the elements. Can’t say you haven’t been warned.

This unit is still working well. Easier to hook up than others. Very accurate.

The Chinese pamphlet had many translation errors in it. The advertisement shows things like setting oil, air filter, ect for maintenance reasons. Not true one can only set one time period on it from 1 - 200 hours where it counts in reverse and may give a warning. The PSA on the Velcro was of poor quality and replaced it with better quality Velcro.

Easy hook up. Use it for tuning my bike and working on the mower.
