"STONEMAIER GAMES: APIARY - BASE GAME - In a far-distant future, humans no longer inhabit Earth. The cause of their disappearance (or perhaps their demise) is unknown, but their absence left a void ready to be filled by another sentient species. Over the span of untold generations, one species of the humble honeybee evolved to fill that void. They grew in size and intelligence to become a highly advanced society. They call themselves Mellifera, and they have made substantial technological advances in addition to the technology they adapted from human ruins, up to and including space travel. In Apiary, each player controls 1 of 20 unique factions. Your faction starts the game with a hive, a few resources, and worker bees. A worker-placement, hivebuilding challenge awaits you: explore planets, gather resources, develop technologies, and create carvings to demonstrate your faction’s strengths (measured in victory points) over one year’s Flow. However, the Dearth quickly approaches, and your workers can only take a few actions–with benefits increasing relative to worker strength, culminating in powerful strength-4 bonuses–before they must hibernate! For a beginner gamer this us difficultly level 7 of 10. For gaming pro, difficulty level 4 out of 10 You have 4 bees, rectangle bodies with numbers on each side. You start as junior bees #1, helping to build a colony, you go and hunt for pollen and fiber, travel in space, do dances... as you level up the bees to #4 you have access to more impressive stuff. The bees get tired, need rest and either go back to junior bees #1, or other options. So building the bees experience, building the colony size, and gathering resources. Length of game once familiar 1hr to 1.5hrs Rule book very good, easier than it looks Good quality and pretty layout Great value for money Good chunky pieces, cardboard tiles, playboards I think it's fun to play but I have about 80 boardgames. Need good gaming table for size. You have main board, each player has a board and the player boards grow but not much. Then each play also has a small bee tracking board for their leveling up and hibernation.
