First, I have nothing bad to say about this factory-style brake controller. Unfortunately, I thought I could order this for my 2018 Chevy Silverado 1500 WT and add it to the dash with a new mounting plate to keep everything looking and working like the factory setup on these trucks. While sourcing the dash plate and correct wiring harness for my truck, I discovered it was not as straightforward or as plug-and-play as I had hoped.From discussions I had with the service tech at my local Chevy dealer, this controller has to be programmed into the CANBUS of a vehicle that did not come factory with the controller installed. They recommended I go with an aftermarket controller that mounts under the dash and has a premade wiring harness made for my truck. He told me they don't offer the programming service at the dealership he worked at and only install aftermarket controllers.In closing, if you order this to replace an existing factory brake controller, you should have no issues with the controller. It looks and feels just like the factory controller in my friend's GMC Seira The process to remove the dash panel and plug in the new controller is a very simple process that should take no more than 15-20 minutes for an average do-it-yourself job. Unfortunately, I have to take a different approach to get my trailer brakes working.Hopefully, this review will give you the knowledge I wish I had prior to ordering one just to find out it will not work and you have to return it.
