My favourite light modifier
I’m just getting into the shaping and manipulating light and this modifier along with all its features and included bits allows you to do so much. It’s also not insanely heavy and large like a lot of them are which is another win.Couldn’t recommend it enough if you’re thinking of grabbing one. Also comes in a neat nice protective case like most of the Aputure range.

Good value as it's both a spot light and gobo in one unit.
The Aputure Amaran Spotlight SE 36° Lens Kit is quite a package in many respects. It arrives in a (new to me) densely made polystyrene type material storage case - see photos - that seems quite robust with both catches moulded in. In the case is the lens modifier or rather the main body that you attach to a Bowens type spotlight light: in my case is a 150 watt Neewer branded model, although the unit is only recommended as being suitable to be used on a maximum 300-watt output light unit. There is also a supply of 15 ‘M’ sized metal slip-in gobos with different shapes/patterns that fit in the supplied holder, there are four built-in metal shutter leaves, controlled by individual levers - see photos - to adjust the light output plus an adjustable lens feature going from 19 to 36 degrees for light output/spread. There is large, red coloured knob used for the focusing that is easy to grip/adjust with. There is also an 18 blade/iris available as an accessory but so far, I can’t seem to find it listed anywhere as this would make it a great outfit plus there is seemingly room in the carry/storage case for such an item. The only niggle I have is the gobo attachment/holder is a bit close to one of the shutter/blade control levers (see photos) and it’s easy to grip it by mistake as either lever handle being the same shape, but it’s a small niggle. In use I am still experimenting but so far I am impressed with the results and ‘getting there’ as I am using this to manipulate backgrounds for portraits and my ‘sitters’ seem pleased with their results. Overall impression is its well designed - apart from the above niggle - and seems quite robust in its construction and it represents good value as it's both a spot light and gobo in one unit.

Good item but with several flaws.
First I would say this attachment does not fit on all light units. It is advertised for Bowens fit as well as its own make Amaran so you should check prior to buying.I like this as a spot light and I can throw a light on my subject, on their hair from the rear to give a glow or to highlight the background. Nice.It comes in a polystyrene case and the spotlight is held in place for security by a circular mount which is moved up to take the light out easily. It comes with several circular metal15 M-Sized Gobo Inserts for Unique Light Projection Shapes. Great for effects but two downsides. 1. After being inserted for a while, being metal they get hot. 2. To adjust them in a circular motion, you need to take them out of the spotlight housing.A nice feature is the control to change the size of the spot light to a rectangular thin shape. I did have a bit of light leakage here but nothing I could not get rid of in Lightroom. Its metal, but light compared to my other lighting kit.You will see from the image of the carrying box there is a circular void and NO instructions. You have to play with it to get the best of it.
