Budget Option
I bought these because I needed extra capacity and they're cheaper than a towbar. Much cheaper. I've used them once so far and they performed faultlessly in so far as they had stuff put on them at one location which was transported to another location and then removed. Which is exactly what I wanted them to do and which is, pretty much, what you could reasonably expect from them. The bars are 'square' section and plastic coated. The mounts/fitting kit are coated in thick paint. The feet are hard plastic. All look as though they will last for a while if not subjected to a use for which they're not intended. They can't be stored as a complete set up needing a box for the feet and mounting bolts. I hope I don't lose the box. However, which is as good as a but, they lose 1 star because mounting them is a right royal fiddle. I know that most of the fault for this has to lie with Citroen for making such a daft mounting system in the first place, but surely a simpler version where the mounting bolts are part of the feet and the mounting kit clips into the attached feet would have been better? But then it would take some development which costs money. Maybe with practice I'll get better at doing it? Even when the bars are 'properly' mounted they don't feel overly secure with a slight gap between the feet and the roof. And I tightened the bolts just about as much as I dared, adjusted the bar clamps until I was blue in the face, and said a few words the kids must never hear, and they were still slightly 'loose'. As already pointed out I have used them and they worked but they didn't fill me with confidence. I'd seriously struggle to get 75kg on them without having a panic attack though, which is what they're supposedly able to carry, which loses them another star. So I would treat these very much as a budget option which will perform to a degree for occassional use. There are probably better (read more expensive) options if you intend to use them a lot though.
