Beautiful [DVD]

Love it I needed cute

A somewhat sappy sentiment but with an excellent cast and producer (Sally Fields) it works. Thoroughly entertaining. A feel good movie where Minnie Driver decides to ditch superficiality for honesty and love for a daughter. Worth a watch.

This was the first time I've watched this movie. The amazon reviews prior to my review honestly were the only reason I took a chance and watched it, as movies rarely get such positive reviews, and I'm pleasantly surprised. This movie was surprisingly complex with its themes around motherhood, personal agency, and how those shape us into the adults we are, and equally the kinds of parents we become. I really appreciated how Mona, the main character, is both sympathetic and but overall unlikeable, portraying a bit of an anti-hero and quite self-centered, yet in a lot of ways, her unlikable traits make her such an enthralling character. I think the daughter is also equally well written. I really recommend this movie, and honestly, I would also thank everyone who reviewed this movie prior to me watching it because I wouldn't have taken the plunge without the phenomenal rating.

I enjoyed this movie. Only thing is if you are going to make it realistic, you could have got a REAL Tennessee girl. The one you had mis-pronounced Appalachia (the TRUE pronunciation is "apple-at-cha (silent t) as given by Dr. Richard Blaustein of ETSU here in East TN). THAT is why this got a 4 star instead of a 5 (and yes, it DOES matter to us mountain folk. Long story short - it was those corporations who tried to take our land who purposely misaligned the pronunciation as an affront to the mountain people when they misrepresented the true, wonderful and awesome mountaineers).

I wasn't expecting much but got way more than I could of imagined. This is such an underrated movie!! And it deserves some recognition. That movie had some amazing cast on there.

This is one of those movies that the critics hate but the everyday viewers seem to love.I was so sure I fell in with the critics for about 90% of the movie. Mainly because the main character was so unlikeable, and the basic premise -- that a 19-yo girl gets pregnant, doesn't want the baby but goes through with the pregnancy anyway, only for her teen friend to get custody -- is absurd. It's so implausible that it should be impossible to even get invested in the movie. I guess the average person is able to disregard such glaring plotholes; the high rating is proof of that.But then the heart-warming ending came. And I began to tear up despite myself. And I said aloud -- alone in my living room -- "You're such a sucker."My final verdict is that this could have been a really decent movie if only it hadn't been for the major plot contrivances to get us from point A to point B. There are too many to count. Someone didn't want to put in the necessary work. And that's unfortunate for us.

I saw this movie when I was a child and it always sat in the back of my mind. Recently I decided to find it and watch it again. I didn't realize that I disliked the main character in this so much. I guess that part of the show, that she needs to learn what beautiful is, but the relationship between the main character and the little girl was not what I remembered and it seemed hard that their relationship would not so easily recover. Of course this is just a movie, and, again, not really the point of the movie. Anyway, this movie was not quite what I remember, but it was just as wonderful as I remember.

There are a couple parts in the movie that I think could have been done better but the characters were portrayed so well that I gave it 5 stars. The female relationships are so well done that I can't wait for my daughter to see it.

This is one of my daughters favorite movies but the DVD had a scratch in one of the scenes therefore the movie is no good and was a waste of money.

I love this movie! I've watched it many times.
