Now First the positives then the negatives or thing's I'd add or change,First this is amazing for camping, especially for watching some horror movies out in the dark wood's, it's almost perfect and 1 of the only one's I've seen that you can take with you on a camping trip an still be able to power it without needing an expensive battrey bank that has AC outlets, or a car outlet to charge, witch most portable dvd player's need, so crazy they haven't switched over to usb charging yet, anyway yes you can power this with batteries, 8 semi expensive D cell battries, but at least while out in the wild or anywhere else you can watch something at night before sleep or whenever- or listen to music,It plays dvds easily an it has Bluetooth and the ability to watch Amazon fire stick or one of the other one's like roku,on a 2 day trip 1 set of 8 batteries lasted the whole time no problem, used energizer,The sound quality is awesome, can be loud especially in the woods at night, at one point I swore I heard the tent zipper being opened, but it was coming from a movie playing in the background, but the sound is definitely quality an seems to have good surround sound,The screen Quality is decent for something this size, not fuzzy or dull, the color's are very nice, an you can watch it from a ways back an still see thing's just fine,There is full control of the box on the box &It comes with a controller that can seem confusing at first, but just look at it and you will easily see what each button is for, the button layout just feels a bit different from most controller's now a day's, so some buttons that you are use to doing something like changing the volume might do something else, while the volume button is placed elsewhere on the remote, not really a bad thing, just different,The quality of the box overall feels great an just the fact you can take this anywhere an watch movies or stream stuff or listen to music as long as you have a ac outlet or even cooler & main selling point for me- batteries- is amazingly cool,Plus it works weather you have cell reception or not, that is one of the coolest part's, especially in today's world where everything is digital an you own less & less, but there is a few things I'd add or change to make it better,-It doesn't have a carrying case, maybe there is something out there that can be found that would fit it, but it would be cool if they offered a hardshell case maybe shock resistant that could keep it protected at a decent fair price, maybe even color match or have cool designs on them, that way you could protect an keep your awesome dvd boombox in good working shape,-Maybe add optional-sturdy adjustable legs, so you could raise it up an maybe angle it different ways, so that way you could place it anywhere an watch it from any angle,-Maybe add a blu-ray player to it, So that way you could watch even more types of movies besides just dvds, even tho watching dvds is awesome,-heck maybe even add the ability to stream or better yet, download games an let controller's connect to it, how awesome would that be, maybe that is asking for a bit much, still it would be cool,-Maybe Add more ways to charge/power it, mainly add the ability to power-charge it through USB, just in case you ran out of batteries maybe it could still be powered with a battery bank that doesn't cost a few hundred or thousand dollars, so maybe it could have a rechargeable battery that could be removed for the 8 d cell batteries, once the rechargeable one runs out of juice,-Just a side thing-but maybe add a way for the controller to be placed onto the boombox, it could clip on or something like that, but in a way where it wouldn't just be hanging out there, Or if a case is made, maybe add a holder for the remote, an any other accessories that come with it,-Screen mirroring from say your phone could be really cool, I see you can share audio from a Bluetooth device, and use usb sticks, but didn't test to see if the whole screen mirroring from a android would work, if not, it could be a really cool thing added to another future version,But if not it does have the reg plug ups in the back, that could allow for a separate cable that would go from the phone, to the box, and provide the audio/display/So that might be a work around if that was of interest, and it definitely would be for me, cause I often find myself watching YouTube,But all in all this is an amazing little gadget, definitely a must for camping, or traveling, or just to have for a just in case kind of deal, it is definitely worth it,If they add changes or make a new version seeing some of those idea's added would definitely make the boombox dvd player better, an I'd definitely pick it up, heck I got a mind to get another one for a just in case back up, cause with the way thing's are getting it might definitely come in handy.

Bought for camping/cottage entertainment
I bought this boombox to use in my trailer. I had all these old dvds lying around and thought what better place to start enjoying them again than when camping and relaxing. I run this on the a/c adapter for the most part but it can be run on battery if I take it to the beach or anywhere else I don’t have power. The player can be powered by 8xD cell batteries. The DVD player can also play CDs, there is a built-in radio tuner, a USB input for MP3s and also bluetooth connectivity to play music from my phone. It also has an HDMI port to be able to plug in something like a streaming device. It has great functionality for what I use it for. The player is easy to use and I like how the controls for video are on the front so I don’t have to hover over the top when I want to pause or rewind. The build quality is robust enough for me to take almost anywhere, from camping to my workshop. The sound and video quality is very good.

Not Amazing, But Okay.
I purchased this for occasional use, and it works fine. I don't hate it. BUT... The screen could be a little better. The plastic is slightly flimsy. The controls are disjointed and illogical. However, everything seems to work. I am powering the unit with rechargeable NiMH D cells, and it works just fine on them in spite of the fact that these cells provide a lower voltage. The streaming source being used is a Fire Stick. The Fire Stick briefly complains about inadequate power from the USB port, but that may be the fault of my battery choice. In any case it has not affected operation. I was not able to get the Fire Stick remote to control the volume, but this is a minor issue. The strange control setup makes selecting the streaming source a little awkward. Audio quality is acceptable. It does offer external inputs which is a real plus, but I am not certain the limited display really measures up to using it as a monitor. The Bluetooth feature is nice, and as I mentioned, the audio is okay.So what conclusions do I draw? It might seem like a good gift for a young person, but the lightweight construction and awkward controls would make it unsuitable for younger kids who may have difficulty with operation or who may be a little to rough in handling the unit. On the other end of the spectrum, adult users may be slightly disappointed in the display.Would I purchase it again? Surprisingly, a cautious yes.It would help if the price was $20-$30 lower, but it performs adequately, has a good feature set, and with ordinary care will probably last. It is also a somewhat unique product, without a lot of competition in this form factor. If Aiwa ever updates this product I would suggest the following: better control layout, better display, internal charger for NiMH batteries, heavier gauge practice. A tuner for off air television would also be a nice addition.I hope you find this helpful, I have tried to be accurate and fair.

Lovely
I love this boombox and it has been important in stopping doomscrolling and using my phone for any more than it was made for. It’s a big, clunky, weird piece of retro (LOOKING) tech. I get compliments on it as people say it evokes a retro vibe of having a boombox. I love the radio function and it surprised me! I didn’t even know it had it. I use the radio every day now.It takes 8 D batteries. If my radio at work all day each time I go plus using it at home and when at parks- the 8 D batteries (that I buy for $1.49 per 2 pack) will last ONE SOLID WEEK. With lighter usage or simply plugging it up at work, it would has a solid 2 weeks but it NEVER has surpassed a day past 2 weeks. Maybe more expensive batteries are better. Maybe rechargeable batteries are more cost effective but I don’t care as of now. It’s loud, it’s a boombox. Haven’t used the screen much except for when playing music CDs. I have yet to buy a DVD to watch on it. Love this thing. But the warranty if you really will be taking this thing everywhere. It’s big clunky and you will be bumping this thing so get it covered!
