Hard to get into but useful information
This is a book for a class I am taking. Hard to keep my interest but some helpful info so far for the reading teacher profession.

Great Textbook for new teachers
I haven't completed this book yet but I love how accessible the book is in terms of applicability so far! I'm using this book in conjunction with my student teaching methods course and I surprisingly don't groan and moan when it comes to reading this textbook.

Don't Miss This One
This is my second Amazon review ever. I don't know Randy Bomer. I've been teaching high school English for five years after spending 15 years practicing business law (note-- I definitely do not miss it). This is a heck of a book-- Bomer manages to distill his years as an English teacher, NCTE President, and teacher of teachers, into a very personal yet practical guide on how to teach English in high school (middle school teachers would also find the book useful I believe). I teach the 9th and 10th grade classes of struggling readers at my school, and Bomer does a wonderful job discussing how students come to understand and appreciate texts and books. He also talks a lot about how to plan units, how to respect what students bring to class and build on their strengths, and how important it is to bring the digital world into the classroom. His writing chapters are also very strong. Although this book is grounded in constructivist theory and the workshop model, it is not preachy at all-- it was written for real world English teachers. I for one am thankful that Mr. Bomer took the time and effort to construct this generous and useful book for teachers. I borrowed the book from the local state college library, and I'm on my third and final renewal. I will definitely own this book at some point.

but this was actually useful and well written
I wasn't looking forward to having to purchase a textbook for my online course, but this was actually useful and well written. I'm keeping it for future reference. Definitely the most useful textbook I've ever read.
