Very heavy duty chisel. The hand guard is a helpful addition. Will split larger rocks fairly easily with a 3lb sledgehammer. Would buy again.

I needed a 1” or smaller brick chisel to clean off old caulking and mortar from my brick steps. This has been perfect — very heavy duty (better than a 2 ¼” chisel Mayhew I bought from Home Depot). Yes, the chisel slips down inside the handle, but that doesn’t impede the functionality, is a minor annoying, and is quickly and easily rectified. I don’t know how this would work for a professional brick mason, but it ticked every box for me.

Good news is I didn’t smack my hand. The product works. After continuous pounding thou, the orange flange would slip down. It doesn’t stay in place with repeated hitting. So glad it was these thou, or I would have some broken fingers.Overall, it is a fine product.

The chisel is good and hard and sharp, BUT the guard breaks on your first miss. Buy it for the chisel, knowing the hand guard will fail. (If you need the hand guard, the one I bout from tractor supply has survived the same number of blows from the same hammer wielded by the same hand without a single dent.) Bought within a day of each other, I use them to split granite - hitting them each in turn.

Very safe chisel especially if you’re using a 5 lb mallet on tough concrete jobs. You don’t want to risk your hands!

It worked wonders on the bricks and have saved a lot of headaches for me. Wished I had ordered it sooner!
