Since I was familiar with this language-learning series already, I decided to stretch out into a language I knew very little about. Much to my surprise, I found many words were the same in English, which can come in handy should I need to eat (like juice, cereal, pasta, cake, cookie), get transport, or be in need of clothes in an Urdu-speaking area. In addition to the English and phonetic, there's also the script, which would take us Latin-language based learners a little extra, but thankfully the alphabet too. Colourful, clear, delightful way to learn the language.

Visual dictionaries like this one are so helpful for adding vocabulary when language learning. This book would be great for a new learner, whether they are going from English to Urdu or vice versa. Lots of the most important categories are covered, such as family, colors, shapes, places, animals and actions. Very well done book of this type.

With a great balance of colorful illustrations and friendly format, this book provides an inviting way to learn Urdu. In fact, it is great enough that adults can benefit from the book as well. I would have liked to have seen some pronunciation guides somewhere since much of language is learned by saying the words out loud, but at least the basics are there to introduce a child to the Urdu alphabet.

It's great that there's images that go with the words for visual learners and just helps kids learn in general. I found it interesting that a lot of the words don't really have an Urdu word so it's just the english word.

great kids activity book

Wonderful and simple introduction to the Urdu language starting with the alphabet and highlighting vocabulary for important topics. However there's no way to check pronunciation and learn the alphabet which is so different from English. This is a good supplement if you has a native speaker going through this with you and the kids.
