Good PFD during Cooler Times of Year; Too Hot During Summer
I live in south Florida and bought this PFD to go fishing with my friend on his boat. I bought the PFD from Amazon, without personally seeing it or trying it on for size, feel, etc. At this time, they don't make it easy for you to figure out the size. The size "XL" is for 44-48 chest; I guess the manufacturer presumes a consumer will know that. Construction of the PFD appears to be good. The foam on the front has two layers, which makes it easier to wear; this is difficult to explain. Includes 4 pockets for your stuff. I put a signal mirror, whistle, and aerial flare in the top small pocket. It has eyelets, so I tied the mirror and whistle to the vest. The vest is fully adjustable and seems to fit well. The reflective material seems good. I bought it in December and its now June; 90 degrees on a typical day and the vest is hot to wear. The "best" PFD is the one you are wearing; this one is getting too hot to wear. I will be buying another Mustang vest with the Mess top instead to be cooler; perhaps consider this one if you live in a warm climate. Overall, I've been happy with my purchase. I have two other PFD's, that I have for my Kayak; they don't have pockets and are not as good as this one.Positives: 1) Quality construction, 2) Number of Pockets, 3) Reflective material, and 4) comfortable to Wear in cooler temperatures. Drawbacks: Uncomfortable to wear during summer months.

Great PFD
Mustang pfd's are the best. i got this as an unmarked civilian version of my Coast Guard PFD for personal use, the only difference between this and the CG version is these are made in a non-TAA compliant factory(made in china) so they're about 50 bucks less than the American made counterpart. still, they get the job done, fit properly, plenty of room in the arms, while not slipping off your body, lots of pockets for required safety gear. great item.

My favorite for coastal use
I have 4 of these and use them for near shore and offshore fishing trips. They are comfortable, lightweight with useful storage pockets; they fit a range of chest sizes (the 'large' size kept on a boat can be adjusted to fit almost any guest) and they are great for coastal use. The reflective tape is a plus as are lanyard hooks for safety whistle, signal mirror, or mini strobe light attachment which can be added(not included). The pockets drain well thru a small grommet, the zipper is rust proof. Open arms and lack of bulky neck flotation allow these jackets to be comfortably worn all day (a plus when fishing) and provide some wind protection for the chest. Although they will not support an 'unconscious' person with the head/face out of water (like a Mae West style) these are much more user friendly for sustained use.

Exactly what I needed
I work offshore and use a PFD almost daily. I have an older one just like this that needs replacement and this was exactly like the older version so I'm very happy

Used fishing in Canada
Used this lifejacket fishing in Canada on a huge lake and felt safe with this lifejacket on. Unfortunately, I cannot give it five stars because I have not had the misfortune to have actually needed it. This is a good thing. I thought that the jacket did ride up some around the neck but was still comfortable. I wore this lifejacket all day with no discomfort. I also like the four velcro pockets to store stuff in.

Great life vest
Sure, it's big and bulky but I'm a small open boat sailor and want the extra flotation if I should find myself in the water a mile or so offshore with my crew working their way back to me, or if faced with having to swim ashore. The pockets allow me to keep a whistle, signal mirror, and flashlight with me at all times, and keeps the puck compass close at hand, too. Materials and construction are top-notch.

Not a quality product.
I work for an oceanographic company and we have been buying these style work vests from Stearn's and Mustang for years. Well Stearn's is out of business and though the photo and design of this vest look like the products we have bought for years, these vest would be poor even for recreational use. Flimsy fabric, the flotation is built of several sheets of foam instead of a single piece. Shame on them selling this as a safety product. Do not buy.
