Excellent addition to my seed collecting book collection.
I collect and clean a lot of seeds from my 16 gardens, gardens at the school I attend HTC, other family gardens as well as swapping seeds. another help in recognizing my seeds.

great pictures
This is a good book with some great information in it. The pictures are spectacular. I haven't found any other books like this that were as good as this one. The only reason for the 4 stars is that there are so many more prairie species than are in this book...

good for subject, but not what I was looking for.
pictures and word descriptions are great, so I decided to keep it. Eventually, I will get around to studying tall prairie grasses.

Usefull
While it does not include as many plants as I would have liked it to, it does a good job of showing the young plants so they truelly are identifiable out in the field.

the tallgrass prairie center guide to seed and seelding identification
This is a decent book for basic identification of prairie plants in seedling stage. However, the material could be easier to navigate when comparing species. Just my preference here, but I was hoping for a more methodical organization of seedling features in several stages of development.

Practical & Useful
The book is small—convenient to carry & does not duplicate information that is in other books. Not flashy pictures, but quite precise illustrations of the plants. I am also ordering The Prairie in Seed, same author. A lot of the plants aren’t for the Saskatchewan area, but the information on the plants that are & that Iam seeding will be helpful. I purchased the seed already and theses books will help distinguish the plants from weeds.

For the serious grower of native plants
If you are growing native tallgrass prairie species in a greenhouse, or if you just want to know if you should pull that weed or leave it, this book is excellent. The author grew a number of forbs and grasses in the greenhouse for several weeks and photographed them at various stages. They then point out the key characteristics at each stage of development. They provide photos of the seeds, too. All pictures are clear and unambiguous and the descriptors include germination and growth notes, as well as a section on look-alikes. An excellent guide.
