Q: Can you detach the long handle for a short one

Sorry to say you can't detach the straps I bought for my staff to get him in and out of the bath in the morning it wasn't great fit for him so had to buy another back leg strap to help lift him comfortably he was completely parylised in the back and front was to strong either if your dog can walk a little just needs help getin up to go for a single back leg strap or front if ther the weak ones and just help him keep walking him self hope that helps

This will somewhat depend on the size of your Frenchie as I have seen them in many different sizes. Taking the larger format Frenchie this would actually fit them quite well. If yours is a more model at size then the next size down.

Hi... this was a temporary measure when my Cocker Spaniel had a leg injury... (just to get him out for some fresh air when walking my other dog!!) I bought the XL for him and he weighs about 14kg. Worked fine with him in it and I kept him to the front/side of me. Mind - you wouldn't want to walk too far. Also has x2 side handles, so you can walk with him slung between two people - I note he's an English Bulldog 22kg - so you'll need to go larger!! Good luck :-)
